Skyrim advice
« on: July 03, 2012, 02:23:15 PM »
I could use some advice, calling the Skyrim players.
Its about making mods working. I found this page   http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/categories/ , downloaded the mod manager, looks like its doing something, but there is no effect on some mods. Interestingly enough, the graphical modifications seems to work while the more complex ones just dont want to... What i would like: add a LOTR-like armor/weapon set, also modify my bought house, not to be so empty.
Any advice is welcome, how to do it.
Thanks,
Debrődy

Some mods need this to work. Install is pretty easy, just read the readme.
http://skse.silverlock.org/

I personally think it's 100% easier with the Steam Workshop for Skyrim. Just select the mods you want and they automatically download and install it for you. There are only a handfuls of mods that aren't available on the Steam workshop.

The graphics mods (textures/meshes) are automatically override by the game if there is a Texture or Mesh folder in your Skyrim game folder. (C:Program files/Steam/steamapps/common/skyrim) Mods that change the game play, "complex mods", have to be activated. When you launch the game, click on Data Files and if you put everything in the right folder, there should be a check box with the mod's name. Just check the box and it'll work.

Although it's 10x easier to just download straight from the Steam Workshop, which does everything above automatically.

EDIT: List of Skyrim mods that makes my game awesome. All from the Steam Workshop btw.

Realistic Map/Roads
Horse Armors
Auto Unequip Arrows
Birds and Flocks

Lush Grass/Tree
More Rain
Dynamic Guards
Clanking Armor
Pure Waters

Yea I used nexus as well. I had a lot of crashes so switched to workshop also. Workshop works great. If you stick with nexus there's a mod called"boss". Basically all it does is tell you which order you should have your mods in. I wouldn't try nexus without it.

I use the Nexus Mod Manager, and have no issues with it. I have had issues with the BOSS file putting some mods in the wrong load order, so don't allow the NMM to update BOSS or rearrange anything.

Every texture mod either installs an .esp file (all files in one file) and you can rearrange its load order. Most will install loose files in the Data\textures folder. If the game sees any of these files, it will load them instead of the built-in default version that's in the .bsa archive.

As was said, most game-changing "complex" mods usually require activation within the game. Usually by opening a special chest or reading a special book. Many times, you will only find that special armor in a special chest in a certain location, or available at a certain shop...read the mod doco to find out where to get it. If you bought a house from a Jarl's steward, you can go back to him and buy upgrades to furnish the house. If it's a house mod, read the mod doco.

Most of my mods are texture mods, but a couple of good non-texture ones are:
Realistic Ragdoll/Force
Sounds of Skyrim - Dungeons
Sounds of Skyrim - Wilds
WATER
Lanterns of Skyrim
Realistic Lighting with Customization
SkyTEST - Realistic Animals and Predators

Shameless plug:
I just created my first-ever mod. It's just a simple texture mod to add outlines to the constellations in the night sky.
NoobEx Constellation Outlines

I also like HLP Night Sky

 How can you not have Dance of Death? Best mod ever. Let's you change the kill moves chance all the way to 100%. Pure awesome. It even adds some new ones. I think my favorite part of Skyrim (beside the sandbox gameplay) is the kill cams. Some are just plain sick to watch.

Decided to try TDoD. Pretty cool, and I like that you can configure it as much as you can; I'd hate to have 100% killmoves...but that's just me.

Hmm, I actually love it on 100%, it's too cool and I never get tired of it. 100% decapitation is even better  :x heads everywhere!  :devil

Except for that annoying part where you're playing on max difficulty with an improved difficulty mod and you behead someone only to get smashed to pieces during the killmove.  (Yaa killmove a dragon. .05 seconds after hopping off it's head a giant decides I need to visit High Hrothgar.)

Hmm, then Dance of Death is also for you, because for those who don't like kill moves, you can also turn it off. :)

Best mod ever.  :aok

You can also force it to be 1st person or 3rd. Whether or not you need perks to get access to some kill moves, and whether or not you'll be immune to kill moves your self. Fun for the whole family!
