Dive bombing
« on: July 06, 2012, 10:33:17 PM »
Hmm, if its one thing I suck at, it's dive bombing. P38s and 109G14 are the only planes that I'll carry a bomb around. What do I use as an aiming point in these planes?

And by "suck", I mean miss the target by 100 ft suck.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Go to NE bases in TA, there's an airspawn for the bases there, N spawn, or NE maybe.

In TA Lead Computing Gunsight is on for rockets and bombs, three or five runs you get a sense of where it is.
You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

I'm incredibly mediocre at dive bombing, but the biggest thing that helps me is watching the dive angle.  At least 70°, and preferably 80°, will get you quite close.  Make sure the ball is centered (no slip or skid) and your wings are level (look through the up or up/forward view and make sure the horizon is level).  And no G loading!  Pitch should be centered, or very close to it, when you release.

Start your bomb run at least 8,000 feet above the target.  That should provide enough time to get the parameters right and still drop at 2,000 AGL or better.  As you get better you can change the angle and start altitude and still get hits.

A lot of its feel, unless you want to use one precise dive angle, speed, etc.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

Hmm, I'll try it out in the TA today. If I still can't get it right, I'll look for a trainer.  :)

I'll bomb any where from 45 to 90. The shallower the angle, the lower in the view your target needs to be. "IF" your site is centered, picture the old "double dot" site. The lower dot is if your at almost 90 degrees and the point moves lower toward the cowl as you flatten your approach. It's not much of a change in the view. At 45 degrees I drop just as the target disappears under my nose. Also as stated, zero G and zero rudder slip.

How do you know what angle you are at when you are diving?

You set up your dive angle by picking the proper point to start your dive. You check the angle by looking at the horizon with your side view.

We can help fix that .  Come fly with the 113th Lucky Strikes, We will show you how to take down  any hanger in one pass using the P38L.  Check out some of the films on our wiki page.   We fly on Saturday nights 7PM EDST we fly as Knights in the Late War arena.   113 on the vox.  Come wing up for a flight, or an hour or two.

Another thing to remember regarding dive bombing accuracy is rudder calibration. If that's not spot on you can think and look like you are lined up but actually not be lined up on the target.
Rudder will effect bullet trajectory but not the paths or bombs and rockets. This is very easy to see in the TA with the training aid you see there for those rockets and bombs.

No, No, ABSOLUTELY NOT

Joker is a life long member of The Specialists. Macks, you may be referring to J0KER, apples and oranges.

The link is to page 3 of the thread because it has the latest terrain version but I suggest reading the entire thread if you want all the details. :salute
