Get rid of cross country PM
« on: July 10, 2012, 09:28:10 AM »
I'd like to see cross country PM go away. There are several reasons this would be a good idea. It would also be a easy fix to many common complaints and probably make skuzzys job a lot easier. Not that he would want that  :)

So cross country pm's are bad, why? explain.

Without it I cannot pm people about FSO information or missions, or to wing up.
How do I contact them? Sure I can text openly on country, when if they don't see it? start spamming?

Why remove a useful feature just because some people can't (or won't) self-moderate themselves? I'm capable (most of the time) of reading something and not feeling the need to respond...almost did to this thread.  :D

This would not stop your paranoia. CVs would still sink, and you would still refuse to believe they had been found by 'legitimate' means.  ;)

Except for a couple players (who I will not name), I enjoy getting PMs from most players.

The game would lack a certain emotional vibrance only possible with a personal communication either good or bad. Ch200 in some ways is just an extension of this forum akin to Twitter. I will venture if PM and ch200 were eliminated a block of customers would vacate the game soon after.

CVs will be found by legitimate ways. They are also given up in Pms. Nor would this stop that kind of behaviour intirely but it would sure cut down on it or at least make them pay another 15$ a month for the ability to do so. Also the nasty Pms would stop, and before anyone says it yes I know I've sent my fair share of nasty Pms myself.

Butcher there is a great way to talk to who you want to right here in a PM form. Oh and by cross country I meant no PMs to red guys but no problem on your very own country. Cant imagine you would want to wing up with a enemy :)

Are you going to disable all cross country channels? Channels like 201, 202, etc? Are you going to (somehow) disable all Teamspeak and Ventrillo servers?

If a Pm is unwanted then tell the sender.  If they continue then warn them.  After that report them.  No need to get rid of it as it is a great communication tool for those who use it appropriately. :aok

I will sometimes PM someone who just shot me down to give them a personal salute.  When used correctly, it adds some sportsmanship to the game.  When used incorrectly, you have the option of reporting.
