ww1 style puffy for cv puffy
« on: July 27, 2012, 01:38:08 AM »
do we really need this monstrosity to do airspace denial within 15 miles of a cv?

cant we have ww1 puffy right above the cv in a tight circle that pwns everything and shoots furter out the higher the altitude?

I dont like to fly in friendly or enemy puffy. I hate it. I hate it I hate it I hate it.

also add a range to cv puffy in addition to the proximity fuze so it explodes more.

once you see how much players are firing those flak guns you will realize we do not need this awful puffy code.

thats right.

have you seen how often the 88mm is active at an enemy base?

cant go near one without 88mm hammering away.

so add range detonation to cv puffy in addition to the proximity fuze so the whole sky fills up with puffy flak explosions that are human controlled and we have no more need for ai puffy box that pisses everyone off.

I really hope the puffy ack range is reduced. Accuracy as well, I'm terrified to go over 3K with a cv in the area. I remember looping over the top of an F4U, just barley breaking 3K and instantly being destroyed by 3 instantaneous hits from puffy ack. Heck, I'm even killed by friendly cv ack on a daily basis.  :huh

Puffy ack only seems to be a problem in that it easily kills fighters in the first ping from beyond visual range  at 35,000 feet while slow moving bombers routinely take out the cv at 2000 feet and land undamaged.

Take the AI out of the equation. Put in either more manned guns or add 3 or 4 more guns that the player can control with the current positions.

So you could have either 10 guys, each manning 10 individual guns.

Or

You could have 3 guys, each manning 3 or 4 guns.

That way, if you do get hit from 20k out while zig zagging, you won't be pissed because the AI decided to draw lucky number 7 and insta-kill you. It would have been a player who killed you with extremely extreme luck/skill. Of course this means level bombers are going to get shredded apart unless they fly very high (as it should be) and fighters 3K+ away would be very hard to hit if at all. Only a handful of players who are very proficient with the puffy ack will be able to kill from ranges of 6K+. It'll also mean the usage of level bombers will drop but you'll see a lot more jabos or Bishops augering into the CV.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

I had suggested something like this in another thread.

I see two ways to approach the long-range puffy:

1) Player shoots the 5" shell with proxy fuse (like now) but if it gets close enough to detonate, a box of 5 or 6 puffy-ack exposions goes off - emulating the current AI puffy ack field, but requiring human control and skill as well as true line-of-sight puffy ack.

2) Same as the first option, but player sets the range (like in the 88's) for the puffy ack field to detonate.
My Current Rig:
GigaByte GA-X99-UD4 Mobo w/ 16Gb RAM
Intel i7 5820k, Win7 64-bit
NVidia GTX 970 4Gb ACX 2.0
Track IR, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Pedals

the 88mm activity is proof we dont need stinking ai puffy at the ranged we have it.

I am fine with an accurate puffy cloud above the cv that is an actual threat to the lazy level bombers that come in at 10k and carpet the entire area with bombs that miss the cv but still damage it.

but there is no need for the denial of airspace ai code that makes flying above 3k fights suck.

+1   Has pretty much killed CV attack / defence furballs.   Shoving the CV offshore and using it as a mobile AA barrage just sucks!!

Have some fun with CV ack:

Take off in an I-16, and climb to 2900 feet, level out and do around 250, then climb straight up. Count down as you climb to see how far you can get before going POOF.

I usually don't make it till stall speed before boom.

While we are on 88mm's give us the stuff that is missing on AHII 88's like a gun site with 4X magnification & high gear traverse.

I very rarely get hit by the auto puffy ack, its the man guns I worry about. I was floting around in CV ack with a niki the other night. 20 mins with its auto ack poping around me and no hit.

Really I think alot of people who get knocked off in CV fights by puffy dont reallise it was a manned gun that hit them.

Autoguns don't usually hit me, but those manned 88s are super annoying.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

If it was manned, it would've been a kill message. That, and the fact that the person manning it is either a super hacker or he should go and buy the lottery because he just killed me TnBing at 10,000ft, and beyond visual range (12K+).

Shame I didn't get to save my Tempest film from yesterday... Knights were hording some rook field and I was cruising around at 2900 feet, after extending 10k away from the CV I spotted a bunch of buffs and while looking up accidently broke 3100 feet, first puffy ack that hit pilot wounded me, before I could even get a chance to
lower my nose, BANG second blast hit and killed me.

400mph at 10k away from CV, seriously?

Two hits back to back on a plane that just broke 3000 feet, amazing accuracy for WW2.
