Hi all,

I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how to increase my FPS.
I have a Dell Inspiron 7720 with Windows 7 Premium.  It has an i73610QM processor, 8GB RAM, and a 2GB dedicated GT650M video card (along with the built in HD4000)

Here is my problem:  I can't get above 25FPS.  I have selected the Nvidia card to be the default card.  No matter what settings I change, Vsync, quality settings, even low res textures, I can't get about 25FPS.  I can crank up the settings and still get around 25FPS.

Can anybody suggest how to fix this?  There's no reason why I can't pump out higher FPS with this set up!

Might be a stupid question but is it (the video card) on? I ask because I have a Lenovo idea pad with the same card and it has a little switch you have to use to turn the card on in addition to assigning it to the game with the software. It also has a switch for the wifi card.

On my computer unless you turn on the card it will just use the on board video and the difference in frame rate is huge.

Through the nVidia software there is an option to either force the card to be on at all times or by application preference.  I have it set to always on.

Plus when I go to video settings in AH the 650M is the card that shows up.

Make sure you disable any power management.

What else is running?  Aero can be a drain on resources, as can anti-virus, autoupdate, and many other things.  I have a 8650 (?) and a Nvidia GT240 with 4 GB of RAM and average in the 40s for frame rate with a fair amount of eye candy turned on.  Something is very wrong with your system.

My ideapad has the same thing but unless you press the physical button it won't actually use the card.  One time when it had been a while since I played I had forgotten all about the little switch and it took me 15 minutes of fussing with the nvidia control panel settings and rebooting and general hair tearing before the memory of the little switch finally rose up to the surface.  It was like driving around with the handbrake on wondering where the burning smell is coming from and why the car seems so sluggish.  Good luck with your problem.

Thanks Skuzzy!  It was the stupid power management!  I have everything else set to use the 650M card but it was the damned power management!  60 steady FPS with the hi res texture pack!
