Tragic.  I think met and talked to him about that super corsair at an air show once.   He was a real down to earth approachable guy.

that seems to be how a lot of these guys were/are.

i remember one year at kissimmee airport, at stallion 51's hangar. i went up to a guy with one of the company shirts on, and asked if he minded if i climbed up on one of the ponys. he said that one isn't mine...it's his....and pointed at this older dude. i asked him, and he glanced at me, and said "sure...just be careful".  friggin guy didn't even bat an eyelash at letting some tall skinny geek climb up on his million dollar airplane.

Deleted due to the two-sided nature of the comment made in innocence.

My apologies and condolences.  :salute

No I was not trying to allude to his death. More to how he as a pilot always strived to be off the ground. Upon second thought I should have explained that in the first post.

I apologize for my rudeness.  :salute :pray

Barrel roll and plowed into the ground and he was trying to get out...  Sounds like maybe he forgot to strap in.  Wouldn't be the first person to do that.  As a dumb young Lt I tried to fly a combat mission in Iraq with my chute straps disconnected, luckily my flight lead saw the buckles hanging loose and told me to quit being an idiot and strap in.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Ironic eh?

A quality individual dies and this is all you got?

You should feel ashamed.

Prayers to his family and friends. A really nice individual....

Oh my god...I just watched him fly a few weeks ago. He is a pilot with the Texas Flying Legends, who are based just 30 miles away from my home airport in the summer time. I just flew down there last weekend and saw them working on the aircraft...extremely sad.

Always sad to hear things like this.  These individuals bring much to many and always leave a gap when they are gone.  I'm sure if he had to choose a way out, this would have probably been one of them. :salute

Not very likely.  Bob obviously loved airplanes, in particular the Corsairs.  Why would he want to be remembered for dying in the airplane he loved?  It's bad PR for the airplane and bad PR for him.
