lose settings after my son touched something on keyboard

Hey maybe someone knows whats going on. My three year old touched something on my keyboard while he was flying last night.(he's getting pretty good too). Anyway all my CH stick,throttle and rudder settings disappear when i log off.I reset everything and saved a setting file but something else must be wrong.  Any ideas?   -thanks

If he managed to get into the Options->Controls->Map Controllers panel and hit the "Default Map" button, it would wipe out any config you had.

What other problems are you having?

Need more detailed information to even start guessing what's the issue you're having.

Is your problem that everytime you (re)start the game, your controllers or keyboard settings from your last session are no longer (or never were) saved?  Is it only after physicaly restarting the PC?  What "something else" is wrong?


Assuming everything was running good and fine for many months before all this started to happen - I'm going to guess in the dark that he dropped or holds your controller/stick/keyboard/mouse closer to him than it's "normal" position on the desk, and has strained or damaged the cord/plug, this is causing a "short-circuit" in the USB BUS or something similar causing an automatic and complete reset of all USB connected devices.  I've even had a friend's 4-yo cousin cause USB BUS resets on an old pc because he would press/hold/slam too many keys on the keyboard at once, but that wasn't a repeating problem/issue, so to say.


Skuzzy, it sounds as if it's repeating reset issue since he claims to of saved his settings file (and thus would know how to reinsert/paste it in... each time it's been reset to default).  Maybe his son does this every time?

The only other way for the config to be lost is for the USB bus to be resetting.  A common problem, with CH gear, if you do not use an externally powered USB hub.

thanks. im not having any other problem than losing the stick settings when i restart the game. havent had any issues in years actually and no pc problems. I'll check the default map button tonight.thanks for quick help.

do you have the ch control manager installed.  something got messed up in mine and i was having the same issue as you.  Every time i closed ah i lost all saved controller mapping.  I eventually ended up uninstalling all the CH stuff and then just reinstalling the drivers with no CH manager. Then i mapped in offline mode and it has been perfect ever since.  Somebody that know CH software better than me may have a better solution but this worked for me.

Hawker, no ...i have never used CH manager. Aces always worked great without it. noticed when i start the game it sais "control mode 1". dont think it ever said that. will look at it some tonight after wife ak is asleep ).

That is normal, however make sure all your intended mapings are settup in the default "control mode 1".  It's been a long-time feature, in a nutshell it's different controller mapping layouts that you can swap back and forth between.  IE: you settup mode 1 with your buttons on your stick mapped for fighter comat, but you want half these buttons to be different when you fly buffs and do bombing missions, in which case you would set up mode 2 as you preffer for bombing runs.  Now when playing, you switch as needed between the two different/independent settups.

The message you're seeing is always displayed (or should be) as a reminder/confirmation to you incase you do use multiple modes.


Skuzzy brought up a good point, CH gear is touchy (see: demanding) with resetting older buss' that get overtaxed.  If this is the culprit then most likely something must be new or different since it was working fine before.  Is there anything new that you have now hooked up to your USB ports that you didn't have before these problems started on the system?  If this is the culprit, the common resolution is you purchase an externaly powered USB hub, so that it provides the necessary and consistent power demanded by all your USB devices now.

If your son is like mine he can do marvelous things that i have never seen just by key board alone. Blows me away when I leave my comp for just seconds and find all sorts of unknown windows pop up.  Drool might be an issue as well.

I don't drool an my computer nearly as much now that we don't have the babe of the week )

drool is totally an issue with my two year old...I have thought about renaming him St. Bernard.

well i bought a powered usb hub and still have same problem(although im not seeing any movement in the numbers when i set them which is nice ). it must be in my settings file . next step i believe is to do a complete reinstall.
i'll keep plane file in settings so i hopefully dont have to redo every plane view.

not having any other issue Skuzzy, everything else seems aok.
ok ,did re install of AH2 ,same problem. went to windows to check game controllers and when i go to calibrate them(win 7) they did not respond. selected troubleshoot and problem fixed..could calibrate. put pc to sleep,started it up.. no controls,hit troubleshoot, this time message said could not fix. un plugged powered usb,reconnected..went to calibrate in windows and they worked.  put pc to sleep , turned pc on ..controllers would not work.
    did virus scan..nothing.
been flying AH for sheesh....at least 10 years on just 2 pc's. cant figure out what could change to foul this up in a few seconds.

. bet its something simple.probly should just put my two boys on it for 10-15 min.

The 'sleep' mode of Windows 7 has some issues.  I would not use it.  It has been known to cause many issues, at random times.
