Ack stays down when base changes hands
« on: September 15, 2012, 03:46:53 PM »
Why does the ack automatically regenerate, when hangars and everything else stays down?

If the ack stayed down, there would be repercussions for taking them out after the base changed owners.

It makes sense.  If everything else stays down, why shouldn't the ack as well?  Means that people will have to stay behind to defend the base after it's been captured.  Some clever ones will have sup goons nearby for after the base has been taken to resup guns after.  Hell, I'd fly a sup goon from time to time. :aok

IIRC, when the guns go down, it is because the crews are dead..
When the new owners roll in, they naturally recrew the guns..
That's what my memory says anyway..

Actually, it's just an abstraction for gameplay purposes..

I have done the old sneak in behind, and deack/retake
towns behind the advancing force.. LOVE doing that!
One of the sweetest moves in the whole game..
Drives them CRAZY!

no, they wont, ack can be easily killed by a couple of planes, we have captured many bases after the vtards horded them then they went to horde somewhere else and left nobody defending it.  only problem is most players now just wont attack a base that has been recently taken.  most will just move on to the next furball.

but hopefully it will change if ack stays down.

I'd love for the ack to return at normal intervals. Drives me nuts to up from an adjacent base for defense only to arrive finding 30 low planes swimming in the ack of the base they just took. This simple adjustment would do wonders in slowing down the whack a mole game play. It would force them to defend what they just took, give them a reason not to close all the hangars, and make take a little more difficult to land in mass and therefore instantly spawn another mission to undefended territory. Hoarders often use the excuse "it's not our fault you didn't defend your base." This simple little adjustment would completely flip that script right back in their face.

It used to be the case where the ack stayed down, a long, long time ago.   Can' recall the reason for the switch it's been so long.  I wonder if itwas even back in the days where the map rooms were on the fields, before the towns were introduced.

I am aware of the ease of taking out ack.  But it takes time for you to fly to the base unless you happen to already be in route or in the immediate area.  The thing is, most folks who are in the immediate area won't drop down to de-ack, but instead stay high for the furball.  I'm not saying they must stop doing what they are doing to help take back, I'm just pointing out something that I see a lot of the times.  If the ack stays down after the base is taken, it may cause them to leave at least a few defenders behind to defend the base or risk losing the base within minutes of taking it.  Of course, as you pointed out, most players won't attack a freshly taken base.  This change may get some of them to start doing it, since the ack stays down.  "They took A90."  "Alright, let's get a cap on the field since the guns won't be up in town."  Probably wishful thinking on my part but ye never know. :)
