Good going dude. I smoked for fifteen years. Am now sixteen and a bit months smoke free. It's really hard for the first two weeks with the physical addiction but after that your pride in not smoking starts to outweigh the desire to smoke.
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

WTG! Zoney!   :salute  You're doing GREAT! Take it one day at at time and before long you'll wonder why you ever smoked to begin with!  :aok

I quit smoking about 23 years ago and have never craved a cigarette since. Here are a few things my Doctor told me:

1) You're going to gain some weight; start changing your diet now before you gain too much.
2) You're going to gain some weight; start a reasonable exercise program now.
3) Diet and exercise help to stave off the cravings of nicotine and takes your mind off of smoking.
4) If you follow items 1-3 you stand a good chance of not gaining weight.
5) You're going to cough up a lot of junk while your lungs clear and food is going to taste much better.

And the last thing he shared with me was a really neat trick that still works wonders for me!

6) Remember that during all of the years you have smoked, you have trained your lungs and chest muscles to inhale somewhat sharply through your lips, hold smoke, and then exhale slowly. A nicotine craving lasts about 20 seconds, so when you get a craving, inhale sharply through your lips, fill your lungs fully, hold the air just as you would when smoking, and then exhale slowly, just as you would when smoking. This mimics all of the movements you do when you smoke and gives you some nice side effects: you get a sudden burst of oxygen to the brain which sharpens awareness and eyesight, your lungs and chest muscles get the same exercise as they did when you smoked, and slowly exhaling gives you a relaxing feeling. Try it! And more than once! If it works, great! If it doesn't...trust me, it will work.

Zoney, I may not have related exactly what my Doctor told me (he was a crotchety old coot), but it's pretty close, especially item# 6. To this very day I use item# 6 when I feel anger coming on, or am stressed, or just want a bit of an oxygen high!  :devil

Keep it up, Mate!

I am not too worried about gaining much weight actually.  I am 6'4" and weigh 155 lbs, just 10 pounds more than when I graduated High School 40 years ago.  I'm also pretty active where I work.  Yes alot of my free time at home is playing AH and therefore sitting, but away from my home I do alot of stuff that works me pretty good.

Today was a better day actually, had the day off, played quite a bit and felt pretty good.

I'm not going to smoke again, I'm sure of it.  I'm a winner and I will win this, cigarettes have already lost.  Returning to smoking would be my defeat, not going to happen, no way no how, just not gunna get beat by it.  I'm better than that.

Zoney I too had quit smoking after 30+ years. I used the nicotine patch, and this worked extremely well.
I had no desire for the after dinner smoke, the while driving smoke, while drinking smoke, or even the coveted
after nooky smoke. However, (you've noticed no doubt I said had quit) after five months I found myself
depressed.. My hobby is building and flying radio controlled aircraft. My favorites being my 1/5 scale warbirds
of course. Anyway, an aircraft I was building at the time I found I had lost any desire to work on. Why?
Because of the cigarette break! Seems my habit of "get this done, then go have a smokey treat"
was a reward I wasn't prepared to let go of, and had no counter for it. :cry I guess my point in all this is
just try to keep your routine as routine as usual so that you don't associate an activity with the loss of your
good ole buddy nicotine.

Best wishes, & good luck sir.  :salute

Some time, later on, you will have a moment of weakness and bum a smoke at a party or some sort of social function.

If you light up and the taste and dizziness causes you much discomfort, you will never smoke again.

Hate to bust your bubble, but, you didn't get angry as a result of not smoking.  The truth is you were always angry and you smoked.  Good for you getting one of those bad habits under control.  Now you can devote more time to getting the Anger problem solved.  Good luck.

not true, it is known that nicotine affects the brain and a person's mood can be affected when they stop smoking...
