just a question, how can i put the security settings on high if I dont use it or have it installed?

semp
Because you have it installed, unless you've done some serious Registry tweaking to make uninstalling possible. Just look into your Program Files (x86) folder and you'll find the IE folder with a fully working exe. Uninstalling IE only takes the default status and icons away.

If your PC is switching itself on at night shouldn't you turn off "Wake on LAN" in your BIOS?

I bought a poo wireless keyboard from Walmart/Asda, one of the keys was rubbish. :rofl

I took it back and bought some pies with the money. :old:
There are no pies stored in this plane overnight

I already answered that: Go to C:\Program files (x86)\Internet Explorer\ where you will find Internet Explorer, or rather "iexplore.exe" which will launch IE.
OR without even opening IE: Go to Control Panel, find Internet Options and voilą! It's the very same thing in there.

To your other question: Some virus or other malware might affect your system even if you don't use IE. You see, some malware might sneak into your machine through, say, Firefox and then the malicious program could use IE without showing a visible IE window. I just recently cleaned a machine which among other things had two instances of iexplore.exe running in the background. So even if you don't use IE, something else might. That's why securing IE is important.
