I thought the english hated red coat wearing stuck up aristocrats on horses hunting foxs and setting man traps for poachers who had the temerity to try to feed their families.

I thought the English were all red coat wearing stuck up aristocrats on horseback hunting foxes..or Burberry wearing chavs on mopeds hunting chav foxes.

We don't like anyone who are loud and looks around to make sure everyone is listening, so that includes Southern England :old:

We should hunt criminals as well as foxes :old:

Obviously you would have to pay for it, the revenue could be used to fund good courses such as libraries and local amenities :old:

Most do, as I mentioned earlier. There is a fox hunting ban in this country, but as with most things, becUse it aas applied to a pastime (loathed to call it a sport) which is the choice of the rich and wealthy, kncluding Judges, senior rozzers, QC's etc, it is completely ignored :old:

On the other hand, after spending months getting my lawn to look half decent, there is a large lardy rabbit digging the crap out of it, I could conceivably take pleasure in his demise :uhoh

I forgot about the fox hunting stuff in England.  Here some of the cause-heads are protesting our hunting of coyotes, but the only reason they are allowed to be hunted is because they take away habitat needed for our foxes.

It makes more sense now that I see this interview of hunting protestors in England.

You tell us 'what about them being pests'?

Pests need controlling. Sometimes by culling, sometimes through chemically castrating. Occasionally by disease introduction such as the disgrace that is mixamatosis.
The issue is whether it should be a fun pastime to kill them, or just a necessary evil?

I am a hunt.

I enjoy hunting for getting outdoors and getting meat on the table for the family. Not only is it cheap meat it's also extremely healthy and tasty. I hunt deer, goats, hare (aka jack rabbits in the US), and rabbits. I will kill possums outright not for meat but because they are a major pest here.

I do not take trophies.

I do not take pleasure in killing animals. In killing them I aim for a quick clean death, preferably a head/neck/or HILAR shot all of which provide the best meat recovery.

If I do not hunt, then the above animals will most likely be subject to control via a number of poisons. The most common of which is 1080. For some game 1080 poisoning is drawn out and extremely painful death. Deer carcasses will often show signs of severe thrashing and animals trying to disembowel themselves. And of course the meat is unrecoverable.

I gut, and dress my own meat. Which is far more than you probably do hunting the supermarket isles ;)

Did you not read my post that said I have hunted for food, that I have no problem with hunting for food, that I have to dispatch animals regularly as part of my job. Did you not see me write that I understand the need for control of vermin.I'm sure I wrote all that, and I am also sure I mentioned the fact that I have no issue with any of them things, merely with the concept of pleasure from killing.
So we are on the same page, yes I shop at supermarkets and butchers, but I also get meat from a friend in form of rabbits and fish and so.etimes venison. I prepare both for the pot. You seem to have missed that part of my posts and my point :salute

Why? Killing for necessity is fine but the fact that guys think there is some 'challenge' in outwitting a fish with a brain the size of a lentil escapes me.

Actually, I think it feels good to kill pests.  Like prarie dogs and for some people where I live coyotes as well.  ALthough I couldn't bring myself to shoot a coyote, I don't mind that we have people who do.  Otherwise the foxes here would be pushed out of their habitat.

We also have a nice side bonus associated with most people's aversion to shooting anything that looks like fido and that is exceptions to nearly every hunting regulation when it comes to hunting coyotes, their season is 24/7/365 and it's the only animal you can legally hunt in Iowa with a rifle.  I'm pretty sure it's also the only animal you can legally hunt with a crossbow as well excluding someone missing some of their fingers.

There is a difference in Fishing and catching you know, part of the enjoyable aspect of fishing is figuring out what they are willing to bite on, not "outwitting" so much. Plus nobody kills a fish for dffun you eirther eat them or release them unless its an invasive species. Lost time  I killed a a fish I didnt eat I was 8 and had a bunch of m-80s...
