Man Clint Eastwood is just plain awesome, my dad had a riot when I came home from college just to watch all of his westerns and John wayne.

Jeremiah Johnson

The Searchers

The Cowboys

Lonesome Dove (The original mini-series.  Not technically a movie, but one of the best Westerns ever!)

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (Kinda seventiesish but its a classic)

Macabe & Mrs. Miller

A Man in the Wilderness

Little Big Man

Toxic, psychotic, self-aggrandizing drama queens simply aren't worth me spending my time on.

My favorite old Western is Man who shot Liberty Valance.
Out of the newer ones you can't beat Open Range.

This week, I are been mostly watching Westerns, well two so far: A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and next The Good the Bad and The Ugly.

I was wondering if you Americans had favourite westerns that they would recommend? Age doesn't really matter but I'm not so keen on recent films. Better older than newer then.

I have never watched Shane for instance, is that a good one?  :old:

Shane is excellent.

For most people the sky is the limit.  For a pilot the sky is home.

I agree with AKWabbit

If I could only watch one western ever again it would be Lonesome Dove the mini series. Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones are excellent in it.

Wow, great suggestions!  :aok

I've seen some of these, I am very keen on Mr. Eastwood's work. Always so, conclusive  :lol  Also Jeremiah Johnson and Little Big Man are favourites.

I know it's set in Australia but I've got to add it....Quigley Down Under with Tom Selleck.
I'd rather be flying!

Cant watch Cat Ballou without picturing Janie wearing a little NVR helmet on her head. Probably my faves are Shane, Unforgiven, The Wild Bunch, 2nd True Grit "sorry Duke", and Jeremiah Johnson. The War Wagon was pretty good too.

Unforgiven - Clint Eastwood as director

And the trailer doesn't do this one justice: The Last Outlaw w/ Mickey Rourke

(not so old, but great gunslingers)
