On new Challengers bein slow:

Umm .. I remember runnin a mid 16 second quarter in my 4-gear 383 69 Road RUnner ..with headers.
It 'felt' fast and was loud (uncapped an all) .. and ..useda embarass the crap out of a lot of old school muscle cars even so..
..especially Mustangs.

New R/T hemi Challenger will run low 13's (like 13.0's.. some have posted high 12's with very minor bolt ons) ..costs more than 10k less than a Boss 302 Mustang
.. hmm .. for that extra 10k I would imagine boltin on a Procharger, converter change, mebbe a better gear out back
could get me to the point where I would have to polish my tail lights because that's all most Mustangs would see.

Granted .. you could do the same bolt ons for a Boss 302 ..and be up over 50k into it
.. for that coin I could do a gen 3 426 Hemi, procharged ..and be well into the 600hp range and still be faster.

Nice, I love the challengers, If I were to get one though it would be this one:

My wife swears I'm gay but the way that pink sparkles in the sun is just gorgeous. Pictures don't do that color justice.

don't compare it to the boss. compare it to the gt. the gt for 26k(cheap version) or about 34k(premium) will run mid 12's all day long. bolt on a power adder, and you're in the 10's. for less than 40k.
if ya wanna use the boss, there's already been supercharged ones dyno'd over 800hp, with nothing more than a supercharger. and i think a tune to go with it, but that's to be expected. i think camaros are getting similar numbers to the gt.

stock for stock, comparing apples to apples, you ain't going faster than the mustang right now.

that said, i still like the challengers a LOT. they look good, and sound good. if i could afford one without giving up my gt, i would strongly consider getting one. perhaps in the color of the one posted in silverz06's post......THAT looks badarse.

the big block will do over 170 mph.......the V6 will do 155....sorry cap, but that is anything but slow.....

it does not matter if it is the "fastest" (although the Challenger has a better top end then the mustang in the same class) it has more style and class than all the retro's put together....it is the King of modern muscle just like the Cuda's and Challengers of yesteryear.

when I took the new one out the dealer says to me...."ya they are great at going straight...they were made for drag racing"
a big idiot who does not know anything about the Challengers.....

the first Challengers came out in 1970 they were called the T/A Challengers that stands for Trans Am racing...a road racing circuit....same with the Cuda's......... AAR Cuda....All American Racing.........they were not made for the 1/4 mile they were designed for road racing..back then if a company wanted to put a car on the track they also had to put it on the street(cant remember what it was called)........my Challenger with its disk brakes in front and drums in the back.....weighed 3650 lbs and handled awesome on the back roads nothing ever beat me on the back roads...nothing even came close....these new ones with huge dick brakes front and back are even better....they handle awesomely for a car that is over 4000 lbs.

Silver that panther pink Challenger is sweet, I would own one in that color :aok

it was called homologation. and it should be still in the rules.

sounds like your salesman wasn't very up on his stuff. when i test drove the mustang i didn't end up buying, i flogged that car. hard. the guy was telling me about mustangs, and how poorly they handled in the past while i was doing it. so i took it on a back twistie road i'm familiar with, and know what i was able to squeeze out of my old fox body mustang. and i proceeded to flog that car more. it was like a slot car. worlds better than my fox body....but i already knew that. he got quiet for a moment, but never reached for a "jesus handle" or did the passenger foot braking thing.

if i'm not mistaken(and i could well be) the gt is limited to 155mph. suspect the six banger is limited the same.

now, after all of that wall o text.......i suspect you think i'm dissing the challenger. i am not. or at least not intending to. i like the thing, and as previously said, i wouldn't hesitate to own one......if i could afford it without giving up my gt. i also think ge's gonna be happy with his,,,,,,won't be as fast as his vette was, but i'll be willing to bet he'll be wondering why he didn't do this sooner.

now stop taking me so darn seriously!! or do i have to use excessive smiley thingies?  :aok

Cap the C5 Vette I had on its best day would run mid 13's in stock trim.
Challenger is 13.0's ..it's actually a bit faster.
Helps that it's 15 years newer :)

I'll try an do some video's at Speedworld when I make it out there.
I heard the local Challenger club goes out there just to embarass the Mustang crowd :)

(and hey .. ya think a huge old school Hemi would be fun in a new Challenger? -grin-)

Well .. since I won't be involved in maintenance gigs for the next 10 years or 75k miles ..mayhap I will be able to bolt on a procharger an make it a tad louder :)

Loud part will prolly happen sooner than procharger :)

-Frank

Procharger and accompanying tune will void the drive train warranty.

hehehehe.........those shuold look good going through turns. if you look on youtube, i think it was int he 2010 season, or 2011 season, there was a challenger in a couple of the contintal tire challenge races. a lone challenger in a sea of mustangs/camaros, and bmw's. and the dam thing looked sexy in there.

almost forgot....i thought those vettes were faster than 13's.........

Say goodbye to your Drivetrain Warranty.   Depending on the Engine, I would refrain from doing that.

On 'voiding the warranty'
.. if I could afford it I would bolt in a huge old school Hemi tomorrow,
back half the car and swing a Dana 60 back there,
and have an 8-71 blower singin up front.

Photoshop fun:

As it is it will be several years before I can manage to do what I plan.

I did notice one of the salesman at Bill Luke has no mufflers on his Challenger ..was told by the guy I was chattin with that he had removed them entirely and just ran a straight pipe where they useda be.. it was LOUD up in them buildings and sounded *awesome* exiting onto Camelback.

He still had the cats ..but that was all I was told.
