Given the numbers that we saw in MW last night, I'm not sure that would be the case.  I saw a lot of 51D drivers having a lot of fun in the 51B, and we had plenty of PJ drivers running around as well - I'm sure these are the folks that would be running away in 51Ds and laying waste to bases in P38Ls if LW was open.  We regularly get big numbers in FSO, flying things that nobody in their right mind would take out in the LW arena.  The reason that works is that the planesets are balanced - you don't have to worry about your Spit I or 109E4 suddenly getting blasted apart by an La-7.

I suppose another option would be to fold EW and MW into a single arena and try the rolling planeset idea on that - with only 2 arenas open (LW and RP) maybe we would get enough numbers in the rolling planeset arena to make it worthwhile.  I think it goes a long way towards making a more dynamic arena - and with all the WW2 aviation history geeks we have here, I can forsee a continual "discussion" (argument) about what is the best plane available at any given time.

I think it is worth a try - the LW arena gets a bit stale after a while.

that was a one time only.   I logged in saw the ma closed waited a bit then logged off. and went to play wot.   if I wanted to play. ew or mw I. know which button to push.

I think the reaction would be less than expected. If the LW remained avalable and the RPS replaces the early and mid war arenas that there would be little grumbleing from the die hard late war pilots

You'll just have an RPS arena with just as much, if not less than a population of the current EW and MW arenas.

there would be grumbling from the EW and MW weirdoes.

If I understand the goal of rolling plane set, it is to get people to try a different kind of game play. I like the way this thread is thinking...

However, what I'm hearing in this thread is that rolling plane set alone is not enough to break the death grip that LW has on AH. And it is important when you want to introduce change that you make it an addition instead of a take away. Given the poor attendance of most arenas...a new arena should be able to be added without taxing the servers. If the concept for the arena was good it would build numbers on it's own merit.

I think there are many factors that go into the popularity of LW and to create something that can rival it will take a lot of critical thinking and input from players. I would like you guys to consider adding your valuable comments to a new thread..."Life for AH after the LW." I'm looking for the primary factors that make the LW the place to be...with the goal of interpreting the results to develop a new arena concept.

Adding another arena will just give you another empty arena. The AvA arena while not running a true RPS they do have a limited plane set and you can see how popular that arena is.
