To win or learn ? I remember when people debated/argued to learn, seems most folks want to win . I have only been involved in a few discussions with different points of view where I did not learn something ,at this bbs . Good example is here .

I had a misconception or two going in and I learned something from mountain man . Question is . Is this impression wrong ? Do people still debate to learn ? Or is it to win ?

Got to disagree .  My main point is to learn . My education is not very good . There are some excellent minds with great educations around here . I seldom if ever change any minds around here . I have changed mine on more than one occasion due to cogent arguments . One topic I was thinking about was my years long rant on force feedback . I did not change a single mind . It took another person with much better credentials to change minds . Even though we said the same thing .

Perhaps but you were still correct and the other party wrong. Them not conceding that has more to do with status and prestige and that is less admirable / honest than those who are prepared to be seen to be wrong in search of the truth.

I don't think either of us would look at it that way . Let's compare what he does on bbs with in game actions . A win at any cost guy will horde , pick , ho, etc . Does mntman do that ? I have never seen it . Does he belittle ,humiliate or make personal attacks here ? I have only seen him present well reasoned arguments . Last thing to consider , his being a trainer . To me that seems to indicate a teacher  .

While there may be some argument in a debate, there is seldom any debate in an argument.

I am on Wikapedia, I have apparently written a book about Soul music, it even has a ISBN number. (I only found out when someone ask me for a copy of said book)

I didn't even know I was in contravention of military protocol but my post was deleted by a a serving officer in the US military. Which was funny because I never served in the US military  but he deleted the post because it might have contravened the rules in the Irish military which I left 18 years ago.

I'm almost flattered.

Yet I almost understand.
