Ze Germans had some very impressive wind tunnels at the time. During the war they built one capable of producing Mach 4 wind speeds for the V2 project.

First one is the wind tunnel A3, Luftfahrtforschungsanstalt Hermann Göring, Braunschweig (Brunswik). Max air speed = 350 km/h

This photo has shown up in more places of the first 109E. Note the second bird isn't the same one possibly a test bird V24 according to "Messerschmitt Bf 109 A-E" by Radinger & Schick

I've noticed that it flys faster with only one horizontal stabilizer, or half a wing. At least that is how I frequently fly them and they seem faster.

You can get the G and later to 550mph.
No joke! You just have to dive from 10k+ in a shallow dive angle. I have done it a few times now.

That doesn't sound too difficult. If you start from 30k you'll probably get it even faster then that, to near transonic speeds.

The first picture is in the LFA as Lusche noted.
I'm not sure about the second one; might be the V24 at Chalais-Meudon, but that is a very large tunnel, IIRC oval 16x8m, structures look smaller.

The aircraft in the second picture is very interesting. Looks like a testbed for the improvements that would appear on the 109F. Cool find.
