I got my first car yesterday :'). I needed it to drive to and from the college next semester because my schedule is a bit wanky and doesnt fit with the bus schedule. Anywho its a 2006 Honda Accord EX Coupe with 95K miles on her. Tomorrow I'lll put fresh tires on her and sometime in the next week get an oil change. Ive spent all morning cleaning her up right, doing the windows, the seats, and making car noises sitting in her. Next stop is Wal-Mart to pick up a hula girl and a shaggy steering wheel cover.  :D

Nice car, very reliable but it have a 7 year or 100tho mile timming belt change thats about due if it wasnt dont yet!

Be sure you dont neglect this as a broken belt can cost you plenty, while they change they belt pony up for the waterpump also because it's a cheap part and they're already to swap it when they do the belt.

Watch the endlinks on the sway bars as they tend to fail if you live near snow and hondas seem you wear the bake pads rather quickly IMHO.

   YMMV.

no issues with hula girl on the dash. :)

a stupidly simple one.....the club. just something to make a thief want to go to the next car 'cause it's easier........

If your car is the only car parked on the street and a thief is determined to break into any car they find on that block, the best security won't do a thing.  Now, in your college's parking lot, where your car will be but a drop in the ocean - the club will do well, so long as you don't leave cash/laptops/valuables visible (also, don't park it in the darkest furthest corner).

Also, if you do upgrade the XYZ, don't be one of the dumb!@#$s at your school and put a big ol' "break-into/steal me from the lot" sticker(s) all over your car like many of your generation do before learning.

First car (much like this one) while starting out on my own in Anchorage, Alaska in the early 90's.
1985 red Subaru Hatchback DL, front wheel drive only, 1.6 litre H-4. Still remember the price tag at $2450 back then. GREAT winter car. Four-speed tranny finally gave out, so I stuck a five-speed in it.

It still has a serpentine belt which I will be changing fairly soon. I live in Florida... weve seen snow once in my 14 years of living here.  Brake pads and rotors are brand new.

One of my sisters had a green w/white 77 Granada. Hunk o' junk. It would get just sick enough you could fix it, but then couldn't go anywhere because you were broke. Or, if you had any money left it would get you there, then break down again.

this, basicly...took it from 180,000km to 352,000 km over 5 years, never hit anything that required calling my insurance company, never got caught doing more than 25 over in it (but i did find the limiter a few times) saw nearly as much gravel as pavement...the stock sound system would shake all the mirrors... and the last ticket i got in it was getting caught parked on parkland, after dark, in the back seat.  it was nothing special in the power department,  but even with a full load of passengers, the v6 still spanked a few ricers, and it would fire up no trouble in any weather.

My mom used to say that I shouldn't rely on my superior driving skills - which I know I don't have - because I can't control the other drivers out there.

When I was going through motorcycle training, it was pounded into me that the "good" riders are the ones that don't need to use their superior skills. They're the ones that find the easiest route, and always have a way out. ;)

Good mantra no matter what you're commuting on.

And for giggles, my first car (that was actually in my name). 79 Datsun 280zx 2+2. The 2+2 being for one of two purposes:
Cheaper insurance
Or two, you had someone who lost their legs and didn't need the space...
THAT, was a chick magnet, even though I spent more time repairing than driving, totally worth it. Learned a lot!
Sometimes, we just need to remember what the rules of life really are: You only
need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the
WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Since when Cap?  I know my CRV has a chained engine but I was sure the 2.4 in the Accord was still a belt.  I could be wrong though as my accord had the 2.3 which was a belt and in 01 they changed to a 2.4 but I thought it was a different serries than the 2.4 in the CRV.

i think around 01 or 02 they went to a timing chain. they over complicated it though, with plastic coated tensioners(probably the same as your crv), and guides. it's also got a variable valve timing control solenoid that will go bad if oil's let go too long. and if the chain only skips 1 or 2 teeth, it's bent valve city just like the belted engines.

believe me, i was shocked the first time i saw one, and slightly pissed off, as hondas are some of the easier timing belts to do.

on the hondas, i haven't seen any that weren't due to lack of proper maintenance to be honest. in the last six months though, i've had three 2.2 liter chevys with broken or skipped timing chains. two of them were regular customers, so i know their maintenance was up to snuff. all three of those were in the 100k mile range.
with some of the early crv's there used to be a problem with the cams seizing........
