Yeah I'd really like to see a film where a pilot fights himself simultaneously with 2 different planetypes!

I think you should read the posts again...SF was pffft the JUG > LA7....so it was about these to fellas.  I know, its ok.  Sometimes its easy to get confused  :aok

If I'm flying against an LA 7, I would like to be in an LA-5fn.  You give up a little in top end speed and firepower, but you get a lot in maneuvering.  However, I stopped flying the La-5fn because I have a hell of a time hitting anything with those guns and there ain't a lot of ammo.

The La7 is lighter and more maneuverable than the La5FN. It's one of the few planes that is an across the board improvement on its predecessor. More horsepower, more aerodynamic, lighter, and better armament (although if you take the 3 20mm package the plane is 5lbs heavier)

LA7 & La5FN have the same HP. Their gross weights are virtually identical............

The La7 has less drag and a slightly more efficient prop (than the La5FN {44}). Hence the La5FN can scrub E ( if desired) more efficiently than the La7 but not accelerate with an La7

I have been enjoying seeing a lot of well flown p40s in the main.

Only flown it once in a duel vs a true p40 master.

He won but I made him sweat it out for a few minutes.

Personally, if I had to fight an La-7, I'd want to be in a 109K. Probably not the best plane for dealing with a lala purely based on the stats, but it was my plane, and it was what I knew best, therefore it gives me the best chance at coming out intact.

IIRC, the La-5FN is more stable as modeled in AH, not so?
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

True but still more fun than flying for 15 mins to get to a fight, which, when you arrive you'll find one of these three things:

1.  4 to 5 cons higher than you no matter what your alt is
2.  An opposing horde just arriving because that's how bad/good your timing is
3.  A great fight started with a a/c identical to yours and super brewster jumps in to kill you just before you pull the trigger

Sometimes all THREE happen...but mostly just two

FUN and LEARNING are solved in the DA young one.  Getting beat by a lessor plane/better pilot grants humility, improves your ACM, improves your SA, gets you out of your comfort zone, promotes confidence by getting closer to beating him/her, teaches you the 1 v 1 fight tempo, and forces one to ask questions of their opponent they wouldn't have thought of IF you want to get a little better at this game.  Just because one isn't comfortable doing it, doesn't mean there isn't a tremendous value for those that do.

Only thing I hate about the La is that it was updated to AH2 and the Yak wasn't and still isn't after 10 years.

The LA's are overmodeled. The stats seem to be taken from Russian sources, which as most know are traditionally overblown. If you read a lot of the memoirs of the German pilots some of the preconcepts of the Russians and their aircraft don't hold up. The La's weren't nearly as fast as they are in the game and the Russian pilots weren't sitting targets. The IL2 however get's a lot of respect from the German pilots. Helmut Lipfert repeatedly mentions how tough the IL's were to shoot down until they got the 30mm cannon.

 Here are some books of interest;
The War Diary of Helmut Lipfert. By Helmut Lipfert. 203 kill Ace from the Eastern front.
I flew for the Fuhrer. By Heinz Knoke. 52 kill Ace mostly on the Western front.
The Blond Knight of Germany. By Raymond F. Toliver and Trevor J. Constable. The biography of Erich Hartman. 352 Kill Ace. Eastern front.
