The issue is the same as the squelch. When you collide your computer sends a private message to the other player that you collided with him.
All privete messages are send back to you as an echo from the host when you type them, your client filters out message from "host" on private channel.
Now since the * was added that test for "HOST" is not working.
So the only result is that you see a message , that your client used to hide from you.
Fixed for the next patch.
