25 Years Ago This Month
« on: January 05, 2013, 06:26:56 PM »
In January of 1988, just one month before my 15th birthday, my beloved pet hamster Squirmy died.   :(

She died due to the unknowingly dangers of cleenex tissue would be for her nesting once she got pregnant from brother's male hamster.  She had put the cleenex tissue in her mouth and we presume she suffocated.  I don't have a picture of her but I copied a pic of another hamster that has an identical appearance.

Must be a long lost relative.

We buried her inside a checkbook box (empty of checks) on the west side of our house. There is a slim piece of property with a sidewalk along the raised lot bordered by a fence seperating a parking lot below the level of the property of the 3 story house sits on.  It was very cold and lots of snow, but my younger brother and I dug a hole and planted her there.

The house is in the red square with a large tree covering the front yard.  This is in Sioux City, Iowa.  Just north of the intersection in the picture is the parking lot for the local library and just north and to the left is my old Junior High School.  My High School was 2 miles away.

What does a 14 year old to do when a pet dies?  It just so happens that down the street is a place where all teenage boys can go to forget their sorrows.  In the highlighted green box is the local arcade.  I take a few dollars and head to the arcade and feel good aftwards.  :D

For you youngsters, these are the real arcades with variety to the games beyond 1st person shooter games, 2 person fight games and racing games.  This was also when you got 8 tokens for a dollar and most games ran on one token per play.

I don't believe there is anything left of her after 25 years.  I'm sure the worms and bugs plus erosion, weather and temperatures have taken its toll on her tiny little furry body.  No tombstone is necessary.  I have no reason to suspect foul play, so not post mortem autopsy is required.

We should all take a moment of silence to honor her brief but important contribution to society.  Let her rest in peace.

Amen.

I had a hampster once. It kept waking me up in the middle of the night with it's scratching and caring on. I didn't like to be woke up then and I don't like to be woke up now. I took the somebeech to the bathroom, ran a tub of water and drowned it. Threw it out the back door for the cats and went back to bed.

I had a hampster once.

Why do people insist on spelling it "hampster"? Doesn't the red squiggly from spell check pop up when you type it like that?

I had a hamster once, and one day he got out of his cage, we looked for him all day... later that day a family friend came over (somewhat larger woman...) and sat down, talked for a half hour, etc...

After she left we continued the search - well we lifted up the cushion she was sitting on..and....well...sure enough, there was ole' nibbler flat as a pancake

I  have never laughed so hard in my life.

I'm going to hell.

please someone report redbull and uptown to PETA.

So sorry for your loss USAFcapt,  :pray

I too had 3 generations of Hamsters when I was a child.  One did laps around the living room non stop, he was like an Ethiopian runner on heat, he would run for hours.  another was like spiderman he used to climb up walls, curtains and even up the Christmas tree! was funny seeing it come alive to find his cheeky face pointing out near the top!  The last one was a bit of an escapist he could break out of his cage on any given night and his favourite hiding places were behind the washing machine in the kitchen or behind the blocked off chimney.

They all reside next to each other between our pear tree and apple tree in the back garden.   :salute
