Dreaded Don't Move your controls so rapidly?
« on: February 07, 2013, 09:04:39 PM »
It started a couple of days ago.  In last two days I have augered several planes in or just sit there watching while i get drilled since I can't control the plane.

Can the " Don't Move your controls so rapidly" function be turned off?

It only happens when I am trying to pitch the planes around in a tight fight.

I found the FAQ that said calibrate in windows first then AH but that did not work.

If you're not rapidly moving the stick when you get that message then you probably have a spiking pot in your joystick.  If you don't mind opening things up to see how they work, grab a screw driver and open that puppy up.  Make sure all the connections are tight.  Radio Shack used to carry tuner cleaner, which will help if you have dirty pots.  They may still have it.  If cleaning doesn't work, the pot needs to be replaced.

If you're not mechanically inclined, buy a new joystick.

You can add damping until moving the stick quickly stops generating the message but you'll end up with mushy controls. It's best just to move your stick slower.

First, thanks for the reply.  Ya, I can get i apart and i think I still have some spray.

It is happening when I am moving the stick rapidly in the heat of the battle trying to keep the P38 on the very edge in tight fight.

I will go to off line and try a different stick to see if i can pin the problem down.

I sure do wish their was a Tic to turn off that feature or just the message and not lock up the joystick.

FLS we were posting at the same time.  I tried upping the damping a touch but I will try it again.

I will try a different usb port as well.

I can't imagine what manouvers you are making that requires you to make a large number of rapid inputs to "keep the 38 on the very edge". Other than the manouver that I think you're making :uhoh

This message means the inputs from the stick are coming in faster than the plane could have ever reacted to said inputs.

If you are moving the stick rapidly, you can either learn to slow it down a bit, or you can add damping to the axis of the stick which inhibits the speed of the inputs at the game level.  I recommend learning to slow the inputs yourself, as using damping to cover the issue will prevent you from learning how to fly a plane near the edge of its flight envelope.

I appreciate all the replies.  Must be me.  I tried a different joystick, different ports, and re-calibrated.  The results are the same.

It takes 3 inputs(left, right left on the stick) within a second is best I can guess or 4 inputs in a little over a second.  They don't have to be full throws to make it happen.

Mr. Skuzzy, I wonder if you could tie this function to the auto takeoff?

Could be too, I had Redbull, Latrobe and few other really good sticks burning my butt yesterday. :O :joystick:

It was great fun.

Back to practice to see if I can slow my control movement down.

Thanks for the help.

Try to enable scaling on the x and y axis. I still have the same problem when trying to counter the stall in the spitfires

Noir, I do have the scaling activated, which is very close to article Ack-Ack published.  You do have a good point.  I could soften up the roll a little bit.  I will give that a try.

Noir, I softened the scaling curve just a bit on the ailerons.  I only had a short test online but it seems to have really helped.  Thanks for the suggestion.

A film would be definitive if it is a technical (calibration or scaling) or technique (stick stirring wildly) issue.

Be warned - this game/community does not look highly upon stick stirrers, brace for the salt.

I would not be so quick to apply the 'stick stirrer' tag.  It is quite natural for someone to get a bit over zealous in the heat of a battle, until they really get the feel for the connection between the stick and the plane.

May I ask, what does your setup consist of, mainly rudder pedals or twisty stick?
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

A few months back I changed from a twisty stick to pedals.

The problem has not come back so far.
