New pute
« on: April 10, 2013, 04:43:30 PM »
So I was thinking about an upgrade and have been out of the building world for years now.  Was thinking of...

CPU -

MB -

Memory -

Graphics -

OS -

Please fill in the blanks.  I want to run everything at max settings and want to do it for less than 700.00.  These are the only things that need an update so no complete systems.

Thanks in advance

First off, I am not sure you can get there to run everything max in AH for $700 or Under...... especially not knowing what kind of case, what kind of PSU, what kind of CPU HeatSink cooler, you plan on re using for this upgrade....

There is no case its mounted to the underside of my desk...stealth mode with the cd/dvd drive mounted on the front.  I have a 750 watt PS and it would be the standard heat sink that comes with the MB CPU package.  r would you recommend another?

Toe Tag, as TC said you will not get max settings for $700. Here is a link to a public wish list from NewEgg that is within your price,
but will not get you max settings, better than average, yes but not maxed.   http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=30297288

Notes.. 1) Windows 7 home premium will only allow 16GB of memory. Win 7 pro and above will address up to 32GB.
           2) The video card is only 2GB at a 256 bit rate. To run AH at max settings you will need a lot more video card than this. Maybe the $1000 Nvidia Titan ?
I don't have that kind of money to find out.
           3) The memory timings are 8-8-8-24 and is only $2 more than the 9-9-9-24 Timings.
           4) If you over clock the processor to exstream speeds, you will need something better than a stock heat sink and fan.
           5) Do you have a quality power supply, NOT a $40 750 watt Rosewill or equivalent cheap brand? Seasonic, Corsair are quality power supply's with a good warranty.
Check who actually manufactures your power supply here.   http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/psu_manufacturers    and another source    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-oem-manufacturer,2913.html
This info may be outdated. It is constantly changing. You can't go wrong with a Seasonic power supply.

I gave up on PhotoBucket. You could build a $2000+ computer and still not run AH with "everything" maxed out at a steady 60 FPS. It comes down to how much eye candy do you want.

Everything maxed out would take a HUGE amount of computing power.  That means you're going to run the highest possible resolution setting with every bit of eye candy maxed out and all your graphic card settings maxed as well.  I highly doubt there's more than a few people playing that can do that successfully.  The estimate of spending a couple of grand to be able to do that isn't far fetched.

As soon as you lower the resolution setting somewhat running more of the eye candy becomes possible.  Lowering your graphic card setting allows even more to be run.  Between these two options alone I doubt you'd see a noticable difference in what the game looks like but you'd see huge gains in performance.

There's no doubt in my mind that you can put $700 into the components you're considering and get acceptable performance but you won't come close to "maxing everything out".  What's important to each person is different.  Spend the amount you're willing to spend and sacrifice where it least affects you to achive the look and performance you want.

I'd like to have a Lamborgini myself but it's not in my buget so I've made comprimises.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

what he's talking about is not everything "maxed" out, but with shadows at 2046 and forget em as I still cant figure out what it does. all the other sliders are on.

toetag for 700 bucks you should be able to upgrade to a nice rig with "everything" maxed out.

win7 64bit home premium
I currently have a 2500k
150 dollar mobo
16 gigs of ram
and 2 sli evga 465's one of which I bought for 100 bucks. but you can find something equivalent for less than what I paid for both.

and I play with everything maxed out. shadows at 4096 and dont really care for em as like I said i cant see what it does.  you can argue that it isnt "maxed" out but that is your own opinion.

semp
you dont want me to ho, dont point your plane at me.

OK I think GC got what I was asking....just hi res tex on skins and terrain with shadows etc.  Not max resolution on 5 monitors with all sliders to the right.

Advert it on AH classifieds. Not all of us want new only. I'm perfectly happy with the HD6970 Zack1234 pre-tested for me.  :joystick: :salute

If that is all you wanted, then the wish list items I posted will exceed your expectations. NewEgg just took $30 off the video card.

You may even get that kind of performance with an DualCore I-3 processor. I have no experience with the I-3, but the reviews for the

3220 are very good. AH is only a duel core game for now anyway. You will lose the PCIx 3.0 video performance (Only Intel's I-5 and I-7 support PCIx 3.0 and

some AMD boards as well) but most video cards are backwards compatible.

I would put the components in a computer case instead of mounting it under a desk. Unless you have a fan blowing on it somehow. a well designed case will allow for directed air flow over

over critical components.

I just noticed that they took another $10 off the processor.
