Speed fixes?
« on: April 15, 2013, 09:28:59 PM »
Alright...I have been flying the F4U-1 a lot since the new year and I have noticed something. At any altitude I can not pass 400 mph without going into a dive. I have tried going with WEP at 14,000' as many have said but it wont do it...the best I got was 390 before having to refuel. Here's why this needs to be fixed...The F4U-1 Regardless of what anyone says was the first production fighter to pass the speed of 400 mph in level flight without WEP at 5,000 and 14,000 feet. The F4U-1A was an improvement from that and so were the 1C and 1D models. The F4U-4 was capable of speeds from 446-480 mph level flight (That is what I have researched) and I can't even pass 410 in it. In all of these models I normally stay within 290-330 mph. This goes for many other aircraft in the game such as the P40F which was fitted with the Rolls Royce Merlin 500 Engine which pushed the plane to a speed of 365 mph...and in the game I barely hit 300. I know I'm making a huge deal out of this and many of you will shoot me down but I spend $15 every month of my own money...I'm 15...no job...just chores that pay for this and I really love the game but since I pay $15 every month out of my wallet I really would like to see the planes fly how they should. Its nice to see the HE-111 and all them new planes buts can we fix the old ones first? Make them look good, update the textures, and fix the speeds? This is my 4th almost 5th year playing this game because I started after my 10th Birthday...after seeing the same exact commercial that plays once in a while so Its not like in new... or that I'm just some kid complaining about another game but I would love to see these things addressed.

Big Salute and thanks!

Are you looking at the IAS (white needle) or the TAS (red hash mark)?

With the addition of the wind, it may make it harder to get an accurate speed reading (I haven't had time to check yet).

As for the P40, talk to DemonFox. He likes to fly them a lot and he will be able to tell you more about it.

I haven't noticed any speed reduction with the F4U, in fact it seems like it has added a bit of speed from my perspective.

Sounds like the OP is confusing IAS with TAS.

Wind affects ground speed not air speed.

Also, when a source says "max speed of X", they usually leave out the altitude for that to occur.  A plane is going to have different speeds at 1000ft vs 20,000ft.

O think something is totally wrong on his end as well. Before switching to 190's, I was pretty much an f4 jock and I've never had this issue.

@post author, did you accidently maybe decrease
your Rpm's? And I agree with ack your more than likely mixing up IAS withTAs. Although to reach 390 IAS you have to be going pretty fast.  Did you accidently forget to leave an egg or DT on?

As for the P-40 series the F model was very quick (for a P-40) but it couldn't normally attain speeds of 360 mostly because the airframe was built for lower speeds. It's an old design and as such just could go as fast. I can tell you from my experience that the P-40F will perform much better for you if you take the light gun package. I can normally keep it up in the 320-330 range which should be plenty fast for anything in the P-40 series.

I can understand for the P40, but I guess something is wrong with my game Arlo. I always watch the red line and It never passes the 300 mark and normally the White line is right behind it. And for the chart of F4U-1 Speeds the test flights for the F4U-1 were conducted at 14,000 and 23,000 ft. 23,000 the plane reached 432 and at 14 it reached 420. They also tested at 5000 where the plane got to 405 without war emergency power.

Film might show us what the issue is.
