Me-163
« on: April 17, 2013, 08:05:55 PM »
So someone today named icepac told me the 163 could out turn a Ki-43 or brewster. Now im no 163 expert but from the amount of times Ive flown it id say it has a hard time trying to out maneuver a spit, seems to be more on a p51 or p47 level to me maybe a little better. Anyways he told me something along the lines that i should've been able to out turn his spit 8 easily (before he crashed into the tree) and that i didn't know how to handle a 163, so maybe i don't, but i just want to clarify does anyone know or have a chart on where the 163 compares to other planes turning radius.

My general rule of thumb if your aircrafts speed vastly exceeds that of your enemies you are doing something wrong to get slow regardless of turning performance.

ok, thats nice, but i have a limited amount of gas and i enjoy fighting other planes especially when its a 1v1 in the middle of nowhere.

If you want to have fun in a 163 get slow and just camp some poor target's six. You can just stay there as they flounder about until they auger, manuever themselves into a point where you just can't help yourself but tap the fire button, or give up and fly straight and level (had this happen twice). Doing this to most planes is no problem as long as the local environment is free of pickers. I'm not sure you could do it to a Ki43, A6M or Il6 but would be interesting to try.

I know what you mean I love dogfighting in the 163 lol and if i start to lose i just zoom. but my question when u are in a 163 low and slow with the flaps out just what do you think it can stick with, Id say maybe an la7 at best or a poorly flown spit.

Me 163 will not out turn a Ki-43 or a Zeke.  Yes, it's highly maneuverable but icepac has to drop the crack pipe if he thinks it can.

I didnt think so, but if you say that to him you just dont know how to fly it, so if someone could teach me this uber way of turning it would be much appreciated lol

If both flew to their strength's, a battle between a Ki-43 and Me-163 would have no result.

yes i understand this im not trying to debate how one should fly the 163 im just asking is their a chart or any data that can show me its maximum flat turning radius, and or what planes that compares too. Imho i would say it could turn with an la7 at best but ive never tested it lol.

Wait, wouldn't a draw qualify as a result?  (Then again, I don't know how to divide by zero either :D)

Easy way to sort this out. Get Icepac to up in a beloved Me-163, you in a Zero, find a quiet spot in the DA and set the rule of nothing over 200knts. Make him pay with perks then see who wins.

My money is he shuts up really quickly.
