The ride was surprisingly smooth. However it was my first time on a helicopter so I have nothing to judge it against. Blackhawks don't seem to be as loud as Hueys either.
A smooth ride means the maintenance crew is doing their job, and have the track and balance spot on.
Hueys do have louder blades, they have that distinctive thump, thump, thump... Some of the new composite blades are much, much quieter however.
I was a crew chief on a UH-1N in the USAF for 4 years with many hours spent flying on the noisy, shaky things.
My advice to you is: NEVER FLY ON A HELICOPTER!
over and out.
If I trust the mechanic, and pilot... then I'm comfortable in most helicopters. The big exception for me is Robinsons, I've worked on 22s and 44s and after seeing how they are put together, I'm iffy on riding in them. Also just their flight characteristics make them HORRIBLE for trainers... even Frank Robinson has said he never designed them as trainers, and yet they are now the most popular trainer out there.
