It is most likely a connection problem. Run ping plotter and post the results. More than likely your going to find that a hop or two is crap and this is most likely due to the storms/tornados that have run across the country this past week.

Also note, if you are on Road Runner, they have changed their backbone provider and continue to have routing problems as well.

Running a ping plot will should show the problem in bhn.net.

It doesn't fix it, but it does help to ID the problem. If you run it and there is a bunch of "red" on it those would be your bad hops. Skuzzy can ping back to you and see what your return trip looks like as well (returns trips don't run through the same servers/hops). You can use the info when trying to get your ISP to work on the problem.

That looks crappy to me, but what do I know. Ping this address 71.252.137.149 (game server address) and let it run for 10 minutes of so. If you keep getting the red bars it's not good. Im sure Skuzzy will be able to give you better details.

I'm no expert, but a bad first hope is usually indicative of a bad gateway. I used to have similar problems with my DSL modems when they started to break down.

edit: It looks like Verizon is making quite a few AH subscribers suffer lately.

It is not so much Verizon as the recent plague of extreme storms in this area of the U.S. which is causing so many problems all over the U.S.

Take this one, for example.  The problem lies in XO's network.  In particularly it is between XO and BHN.net.  BHN.net has been having a lot of problems.  They are the new backbone for Road Runner.  Road Runner had been using Level3/. You could still see Level3 in the traces as recently as  week ago, but those are going away quickly.

I have been filing notifications to BNH, but those are going to get low priority.  Road Runner needs to address these problems directly with BHN.  The pnly way that happens is for customers of Road Runner to register complaints about the problems.

to find out where the problem is and maybe help you to get your isp to fix it if it's on their network or re-route you to get around the problem area. better than not having the info and sitting around wondering what's going on.

That is kind of how it strikes me as well.  Sure, you can go to them and say pingplotter is showing this issue.

How do you even start to get them to pay attention to it when you're dealing with a script reader and his middle manager?

The more complaints the provider receives the more likely they will be to resolve the issue. The other option is to change providers to one with a better reputation. If a provider sees their clients leaving then they will be inclined to fix the problems or go away all together. Or you can do nothing at all and nothing will get fixed.
