ehhh...ok there were some biplanes that were used in large numbers in combat situations during the early years of the war.

polikarpov i-152
polikarpov i-153
fiat cr32s
fiat cr42
gloster gladiator mk1 and mk2

the grumman f3f-3 was pulled from frontline service by 1941.

not much on others except for some japanese biplanes that were used during the war with china and pulled from service by 1940/41.

Every plane gyrene81 listed was a prewar plane until the war started.

Quite a few more actually

What about the Chinese? I-15bis and Hawk II. III

I was just looking into the Chinese side a few days ago and found a nice web site.

oooh thanks for those links Megalodon...nice sources.

i was only looking at aircraft that were still in active numbers through late 41/early 42, and not including all of the ancient crates invovled in the sino-japanese war. according to the second link you posted, the hawk 2 and 3 were pulled from front line duties by 41, and according to another source, the remaining serviceable i-15bis were pulled by the end of 1940 in favor of i-16s.

Your welcome,

Yes ...It will take me quite sometime to get through that link :)
Both of those links are the same fellow another link on the 1st page I found cool and didn't know about was these Dudes and the best link IMO
http://surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/aces.htm

I think it all depends on at what time period you believe the World was at War....... but some in other countries might say the war started sooner :)

I have quite a few books on most of the very early war planes but these will never be introduced to the game and would just be a waste of time to post about....how ever fun they might be!

Shame,

The I153 saw a good amount of action in WWII.

There was a lot of variety in armament and they even made 26 that would go 300mph at 33,000 feet.
