I'm not sure who started that rumor that I'm some amazing 109 pilot, but it seems to have spread like crazy. The fact is, on a good day I'm an average pilot and on an average day I'm a rather poor pilot, and I don't get very many good days.

what it is...is you actually fight....and fight well.....sadly 90% of MA that is foreign to so it makes you look extra awesome......and all us actual fighters know you are just Plain awesome...... not extra awesome...... :neener:

Well, I try to fight, but I sure don't fight well. My staggering number of deaths is testament to that.

no....see that shows you fight...someone like flyingfin or chalenge might look at that and think you are no good...but someone who is actually a fighter sees it and knows you fight.....you fight very well...... I am a pretty good judge of that kinda stuff......:salute

Maybe by your standards my flying is "good", but unfortunately I don't fly by your standards; I fly by mine, and my standards say I'm not even close to being good yet. I don't think I have ever been able to beat you in a fight. To me, losing 100% of the fights against someone good means I'm bad. To just survive the fight would mean I'm good, and to win the fight means I would be great. To win every fight no matter the odds would mean I was in the elite of the elite. Seeing how I die in 90% of the 1v1s I get into I think it's pretty obvious that I have yet to reach the level of "decent pilot" yet.

You will never win every fight no matter the odds... that's beyond elite.. its impossible..

You die in 90% of the 1v1s you get into because by the time you enter a fight 1v1, you already have 8 kills on board.. a damaged airplane and never rearmed... so even though you may lose that final 1v1..you faught like an animal and decided to look for more and not RTB, knowing you wouldn't make it home.

Most pilots in the MA, say "RTB" for any fake reason the can come up with the minute they see kill #2 pop up in the text buffer.. knowing they will get to see their name in lights.

I have flown with you enough now to know that getting home is never your goal.. it is killing as many as you can possibly kill before you die .. and you do it well :)

Now say no more Mr. Latrobe.. I will not except anymore excuses  :salute

ehhh......you are a fighter in a combat game....when most everyone runs unless they hold all the cards.....I have zero respect for players like that......you don't talk smack....you fight.....I cant ever remember you running away no matter what.....this tells me a lot about your "person"......you are humble.....need I go on?????

there is a small list of people(not that small but in comparison to how many play it seems small) that I have respect for in this game.....you are one of them. :salute

I know most think I am wrong when it comes to your real life coming through ingame.....I don't care....I know people will play the game how they are...if they know Honor it will show.......to me that is far more important then "skills" at cartoon fighting.

Latrobe, you are one of the best. If more of us emulated your fighting style (including myself) the game would be a better place.  :salute

Latrobe is my hero.   :salute

I surround myself with red guys a lot, but alas, I do not put up the fight or look as good as he does doing it.  But dammit, I'm trying.   :D

As for memorable sorties... there's been a lot in my short time here.  The latest one that sticks out to me is the 2nd frame of Coral Sea FSO.  Our squad of 6 was tasked with escorting TBM's to hit the enemy boat.  Halfway there we get bounced by several (10+?) high zekes.  We fight our way out of that with two losses and continue to target.  Almost to target we learn our TBM's got shredded (damn).  We're just about to turn back to our boat when we vis a lone SBD coming in to make his drop.  We escort him to target (he got hits, wtfg) and one of our guys who shall remain nameless (coughbadcorecough) gets a little excited and dives to the deck to engage 3 zekes.  I try in vain to rescue said nameless pilot, but in the process ensure our SBD buddy got out alive.  Climbing back to our boat with a flight of 2 (one guy got separated), we get reports of our boat being down.  Decision time - head for dry land now (we've got just enough fuel to make it) or head for our reefed boat and take vengeance upon our transgressors.   I put it to my wingman (cactus) and his response was the most awesome response he could have made. "Kill".  Kill it is.  We head to what's left of the boat to find one green guy mixing it up with 5 reds.  Cactus and I dive in and the second epic fight of the sortie is on.  Back and forth we went until cactus and I are both out of gas and ditching in the drink while our green guy friend is the last plane flying.   I had 8 scalps that frame but it could have been zero and I'd have been happy.  Truly one of those, "I love this squealing game" moments.

It was a frame of a scenario in AW, I don't remember exactly but I think it was the Big Week scenario. I was flying a fw190 and there was a formation of something like 80 B17s. The bomber stream just kept coming and coming. It was awesome in the literal and unexagerated sense of the word.

The Big Week scenario was probably one of the best player events of any game and at the time, a mile stone for Internet gaming.

All those cartoon deaths yet you can still come here and talk about it.

I think you've figured out the secret of this game :)

Not much point if you don't wade into the fight since we don't really die anyway :aok

I was upping a P51D which I dont regularly do - to chase down some Bishop me262s that were picking and running off. I got around my target alt of 14k and went down near V85 (at that time was under bishop control - the notorious camping base for vehicles) the Airfield just west of it the bishop took in a massive horde.
A furball started, and I headed towards the airfield, lone behold a single 262 making passes and running, he wasn't managing to hit anything so I started flying south where I predicted he would land (out in the open water) and sure enough there he goes flying on the deck towards the AF across the pond.
I started a shallow dive figuring a 51 had enough fuel I could nail him at any of the bases he attempted to land, he had no clue I was back there, I stayed out of range 5/6k in attempt to keep an eye and catch him landing.
I race downward towards the AF, fully expecting him to land and then it happens - 4 me262s are taking off, each just lifted and still had their gears down, I dove behind the rear most and shoot him down then went to the third, second and first aircraft. Four 262s shot down in a sortie.
tour 136, not sure anyone else claimed that many 262s in the late war arena sortie, but It was exciting and fun. Naturally ink came after me with an La7 and nailed me LOL

It was nothing more then pot luck, if any of them managed to get up to speed I would of been dead no questions asked.
