When me and grizz were dueling it out he was on my 6 in a 109g6, and a series of his bad shots and me turning and climbing with a tail slide on top I some how got a brief shot on his pilot for the kill.

Was a lot more epic in film in which I have :)

From an immersion standpoint:

I was stooging about in a Mossie VI all by myself deep in enemy territory when I spotted two Bf110G-2s maintaining perfect formation with eachother.  I kicked WEP in and went in pursuit, gaining ground rapidly.  At about 600 yards I climbed level with them and at 300 yards I opened fire on the trailing Bf110, shattering it.  I slid to the right and immediately opened fire on the lead Bf110, blowing it up as well.  Total time from first shot to last shot was less than 3 seconds.  Neither Bf110 even twitched, though I know they were manned (not AFK) to be keeping formation that well.

Only thing that would have made it better is if it had been night in the game when I did it.

Reminds me of an account by coastal command 235 (I think...) squadron - day time, 2 VI's off the Norwegian coast came across a tight formation of 4 110s. The Mossies quickly closed the distance while the 110s gunners were eating their Leberkase and didn't notice them. The mossies dispatched 3 of them, but the lucky 4th one escaped during the dogfight. If only ch.200 was invented then, I bet the mossie pilots would be calling him a coward on ch.200, trying to tease him to turn back and fight them.
Mosquito VI - twice the spitfire, four times the ENY.

My most epic sorties were in 2010/2011 when I played before joining again now. Fought as a knight in late war arena then too and a player named Floatsup put up fun missions with great turn up.

Once there was a battle going on where an enemy cv was attacking our airfield. Floatsup made a B25H mission for attacking the carrier group. The idea was to destroy all battle ships and deack the cv so we could land on it afterwards. I think well over 10 pilots participated. We took off from another field and sneaked from the other side. After the mayhem of flying bombs, gunfire etc was over, the whole group was basically annihilated. Sadly there was some miscommunication and the cv was sunk too, so no landing on the carrier.

The other time the same guy put up a mission for a B17 formations to raid the enemy strats and HQ. Again over 10 took part. We got to the city and some fighters attacked, but nothing spectacular yet. When we got closer to the HQ all hell broke loose. Most of the prop fighters had been shot down, but now a number of 163s and 262s started to attack. I got one comet as he was making his first pass from above and I think I got another one shortly after. During the reduced throttle formation flight I ended up about 200 yards in front. After a while all the buffs but me were shot down. One 163 and 262 started to make their slashing attacks against me and got two of my already badly damaged bombers down. I managed to evade the ensuing attacks by maneuvering as well as I could. Nearly all of my guns were damaged and finally one of them got my elevator. I was saved by a couple of friendly fighters that drove off the attackers. I spent the next 20-30min controlling the beaten up B17 and finally managed to land it as the only one who returned.

The third story actually composes of two lone flights. I was climbing over the sea with a Typhoon, heading towards a fight area. I`ve been watching a large enemy dar bar behind their lines for some time now and as I was flying, it also moved towards the sea. One friendly called out a large climbing buff formation. I raced there and saw a huge formation, I think it was the rooks doing their "mission of the month" flight. Couple of friendlies were already attacking some stragglers behind. The formation looked like a spearhead and there were no escort fighters around. Attacking the lead formation from the front and above seemed like a good idea. After pushing the nose down and diving down straight like an arrow the luck was on my side, because I ended up at the perfect position to open fire. Got one of the drones burning, but the gunners hit the radiator and damaged the plane a little. After diving through the formation I pulled up and extended to the formation`s one o`clock position, reversed and attacked again from low. Delivered some damage, but lost a wing and bailed out. What made this memorable was the following salute. The large text box was almost filled with white salute and my game tag.
Anyway I got a P47M to intercept the same formation over our strats. By the time I arrived the enemy was really high up and now escort fighters were also present. The fight was already on with friendlies engaged with fighters and bombers. This time I was at the formation`s eight o`clock high. I saw only one escort P47 a little higher than the formation near me, but still well below. Made a decision to dive down, get the jug and attack buffs in a single pass. As I dove down towards the jug that didn`t see me coming at all, the plane suffered from high speed compression effect and I couldn`t control it anymore. Chopping the throttle and deflecting the rudder didn`t help. I zoomed past the other jug almost colliding with him, continued towards the formation still struggling to regain control. I got to a firing range of one formation with the uncontrolled jug and fired the guns getting some hits. Just scooted past him eventually regaining control below the formation. I pulled up to make new attacks. I got at least one kill because somebody else shot down the buffs I fired at before. I do not remember wether it was a fighter or a bomber that got me at last, but after I bailed out the enlarged text box filled again with salute and my game tag like a slap in the face.

After more than 10,000 hours in game, and tens of thousands of kills and deaths in every imaginable way, I find it actually hard to remember the most "epic" sorties.

I think the majority of sorties I actually remember are from my very early days in the game. When everything was new and exciting, and I got sweaty palms just by slowly creeping up to an enemy AFK fighter. I vividly remember the small milestones. My first two kill sortie I will never forget, I was so incredibly excited about it. Or when I crossed K/D 3, I thought I was on the top of the world  :lol

And then there was that epic La-7 duel in the main... when I rediscovered that film years later, I didn't see any epic dogfight, it was just two noobs missing each other and stalling out again and again. But in my memory it was GREAT!

The day I 'discovered'  the joy's of 'spawn camping' ... which resulted me sitting in totally boring remote spawns for hours, waiting for an occasional upper  :uhoh

Killing 999000's B-17s in a Hurricane I  :ahand

My first Me 262 sortie ever... ended quickly cause I accepted a Ho by a 190  :bhead

Later, after reaching the "been there done that" zone, my 'excitement' shifted to numbers, watching my personal stats... the 1000th tank kill in a Hurricane D for example, the 100th killed B-29, dropping 4,000 tons of bombs on the Strats...

The sorties that comes first to my mind when talking about "epic" sorties, there probably wasn't anything epic about them but they were from my early days in the DA. When I flew the F4U's most of the time, and the reason those sorties got stuck in my mind is probably just because of the pure adrenaline rush and fun I had in them. The most fun fights that I can recall was against nrshida in his ki84 and and quite a few good fights against pervert in various planes. Those were the fun days for my part.

Now I fly mostly in MA, and I still try to have fun. But the "epic" fights are very scattered.. Probably because I don't play very often anymore, and the rust is growing.

There was however one fight only a few days ago that could have been epic in my book if the fight was not jumped by a countryman, if I only had used a mic I probably could have called him off but we were in the midst of a rather big furball so I guess that's the reason it happened.
Anyway, I was in the P51D zooming in on a slower P47N from behind/above, he avoided my shot with ease and broke hard. I had to drop speed dramatically not to overshoot, but I managed to stay with him by doing a lag roll and the stall fight was on. I did not know who I was fighting, but I noticed it was someone good by the flip and prophanging just below me as I almost got whacked right there and then. I barely twisted myself out of bullets range and somehow managed to get on his six landing a few hits myself. But not enough to do real damage to the riggid P47. We both danced ontop of eachother in complete stallouts, and I thought it was quite beautiful myself..I mean, it is not often you get those close fights where it looks like everything is in harmony. After a short dance we were now in a downward spiral P47 infront of me and I was starting to think I could actually pull this off, that's when I saw bullets streak by me and blowing the P47 out of the sky..  :frown:

I was so perplexed I lost all of my SA and got killed myself shortly after, and in frustration I deleted the film.  :bhead
So as I don't have the film I have only described the fight as I recall it, but I might have missed out on a few details. It all happened so fast. I think I got the kill if I remember correctly, so I must have landed some good hits afterall.

But I sure wish we could have finished that fight Bruv119, the outcome could have been you've totally turned the tables on me. I know how well the P47 can turn the tables in the hands of an expert. I've seen it and gotten killed by it before. :old:
As you said yourself on 200, this was turning into an interesting fight. And I can only take that as an compliment coming from THE top dog of AH.  :rock :aok

You did not happen to save that film by the way Bruv?  :salute

It was a good fight essay,  It was my own bad SA for getting in too close to your field,  I wasted my height killing one guy, think it was a squirming niki (txcoyote) then save's 190A5 started poking about.  He does like to extend alot and use team play but I riddled him with bullets and knew they had to kill him or I would be in trouble.   He went floppy fish to evade a second burst and I had to break off him because you were zooming in.

I remember your second climb I looked back and you were about 100 yards below me, throttle cut wanting to saddle me and finish.  I pulled enough to stay out of guns but then ruddered over the top,  Jugs and 109's can do these fancy stall moves you see.

Save then quite rightly picked my jug sitting there all slow and ripe but the encounter did get some adrenaline pumping and that is all you can ask for.

I Don't blame Save for coming back for the pick I would too if some guy had just riddled my plane.

 :salute

sorry I wasn't filming.

I did not notice you and Save allready were fighting eachother, in that case I was just as much jumping the fight myself.  :noid
Not my intention at all!

I was just looking for someone to twist planes with, and your P47 looked like a good target. Well, if it was just you and me there it would have been beautiful.  :rock

But then again, you would probably have had your full focus on me coming and the whole fight would probably have ended with me in the tower before I even knew what hit me..  :lol

I remember, after getting slaughtered time and time again by him, tearing up a 262 from 1,000 out with KI-67s. When I saw it was Lusche I finally killed I almost crapped my pants. :x It was a big moment for me back when I was flying bombers almost exclusively. He, and a few others, had mastered a method of coming down on top of bombers and taking them out in an almost straight vertical dive and it was about imposable to defend against. I would upp one sortie after another trying to figure out some way to beat it. I never really did.

Anyways I caught him at the end up his game day drifting in a little to close to those 20mm cannon. I had learned how to rudder towards the fighter and then dip the inside wing to get a fire solution and get a spray off and luckily hit him. It was the first time I ever killed a really ace player in AH.

The TA used to have so many players in it I'd often upp bombers and have other trainees practice their attacking while I practiced my defending. I flew with the 484'th and would fly formations with a few other Rook bomber squads, great guys all. The game had a dynamic strat component with a lot of active players in it. It was a great time to be driving Buffs and a great time to hunt them.
