On the most recent Pig Night, which features the 3k icons, there were roughly 20, at 10 per side.  However, all 20 were flying between two nearby bases, so the concentration was similar to what you often see between two bases in the MAs.

so you can say that the concentration in the ava was mostly due to the pigs flying there.  the short range icon has been discussed to death in the ma.  it wont work.  it will make players like me just quit the game.  the main reason for me not playing in the ava other than few playes is that I cant see the low flying planes.  that is basically it.

Understood, many feel that way.  But AvA (except for Pig Night!) is a no-enemy-icon arena.  This thread is talking about 3k icon ranges instead of 6k icon ranges.  You would still see the low-flying planes with 3k range.

Hey, come to AvA on Thursday, you don't have to guess what it will be like, you can see for yourself!

The dot dar in the AvA helped as much as having icons turned back on. The combination of seeing cons from takeoff to in your face made following the fight easy but, at 3k the difference in fighters and your strategies gets tested quicker than you expect if your ACM or fighting spirit is not 100%.

The problem or value to a 3k icon is your decision period for running away is shorter along with having to spend every moment while even a single con is in the 3k sphere swiveling your head. You are more keyed up, so I suspect the experience was ACM cocaine for some and an out right downer for others because they didn't have the extra 3k dither room.

The time scale and distances were shortened to the point, running away was useless anyway. But, the fighter matchups were so well balanced that average players were able to last longer than they expected. At least until the allies players figured out the Mossi6 on 25% fuel was the British P38.

Over all it was like the late night 2 airfield furballs for hours, 6 or 7 years ago in the MA.

If you want to keep new players in this game, keep the MA icon range at 6k. They have more problems on their plate just learning the game. If you want to play with 3k icons, just contact Waystin and let him know AvA Thursdays the way he sets them up rock. Then show up on Thursdays for the Piggy fight club.

Waystin why are you always getting my kester whupped for your crazy ideas....sheesh........he makes me fly on the side with the worst rides to make people want to hang out and play in the AvA. But, he pays me in goooooddd BACON....mmmmmmmmbacon!!

this is an interesting topic......i guess the real question is...at what range in real life can you tell friend from foe(in ww2)

dunno, but my vision is garbage, and I can see a golf ball (~1.6 inches diameter) at 200+ yards without my glasses.
