Future Spit scourge ahead?? Congrats to Brit friends
« on: July 04, 2013, 10:01:40 AM »
It would seem Britian has almost as much shale energy as America does. Let's hope they can develop it and in so doing generate an economic boom for our Brit friends. This should translate into more tea drinkers flying cartoon planes.

Britain has just won the world’s biggest energy jackpot, potentially worth a staggering £1trillion. Yesterday it emerged that the United Kingdom not only holds the biggest shale basin in the world but that Britain most likely has the biggest shale reserves worldwide. The British Geological Survey released a study that estimates there could be 1,300 trillion cubic feet – or tcf – of shale gas trapped in the Bowland shale basin alone. In fact, the BGS’s upper estimate is a staggering 2,281 tcf – almost the total estimated American shale reserve of 2,500 tcf. Incredibly, this estimate does not include the huge shale reserves in the South of England or the Central Basin in Scotland. --Benny Peiser,

Gibberish!

The normal working man will gain no benefit from any resources in the country, like North sea oil ( which is high grade oil not like the rubbish the Saudis and US have) we gained nothing from that. :rofl

Worst thing for a country is resources which merits the interference from other more powerful nations :rofl

Nigerian people are all poor because the government is back by the West and is corrupt beyond belief :rofl

And by the way if someone said to me here is $30000000 let us steal all their resources your damn right I would. and i would be sitting on a beach drinking cocktails :rofl

Damn righty. Me too (different beach obviously).

True that the proletariat get no benefit from this. Oil prices dropped massively last month yet we are still paying £7.15 a gallon.....Egypt has overthrown their government and oil prices have risen sharply, guarantee we will see that rise at the pumps in mighty short order :bhead

The next big energy boom will most likely be in solar cells.

solar cells on every house = energy crises is over

Silly subject.... Why would they endorse a technology which stifles the income that is Big Oil & Gas?  Those suits will do everything they can to keep that tech from reaching an efficiency rating worthy of the consumer.

We've all seen it before. It's like supply and demand rules don't work when it means .02% potential profit loss. It's the same reason all of our "american" goods are the same as if not higher priced then those actually sold IN america... I mean, our dollar has been equal or greater value than the US dollar for 5 years yet there's not change in pricing.... The best one is greeting cards... CA 4.95  / US 1.95     :O  :old: WTF MATE?

It all just prolongs our energy dependent agony. Like a poster said it does nothing to reduce our prices at the pumps, which is manipulated by business. We will continue to buy our big trucks and what not, paying thru the nose for energy. Big oil has far to much power in our own Govt.'s, enough to prompt an illegal war on Libya and depose a leader without ANY UN authorization or ANY threat to NATO. Or does anyone truly think Libya was a military threat to NATO?  :lol Or Serbia?

And heres another interesting tidbit for those who think we illegally bombed the Serbs over human rights. Kosovo is absolutely loaded with lead, zinc, cadmium, gold, silver, and coal. Most of all the Trepca mine complex region. NATO didnt go into there to stop killing. We went in for mineral resources. Rwanda, on the other hand, is a mostly agrarian economy and has very few resources of any kind. See the picture?

Hey Im a big boy, I can understand that interruptions to resources can crush and economy and cause as much damage as an actual attack. All I ask however is to keep it real. Im glad the Brits have their Mitts on this oil. At least it means we will probably never have to go to war over it. The Spratley region however is different. The wars of the future will be over the earths resources. Not a pleasant thought.

I am not saying solar energy will take over oil and gas. Unless someone invents something new oil and gas will be around for a long time. What the solar industry will bring is a boom for new appliances, heating, and transportation. Similar to how the modern day laser printer reduced the demand for copy paper.

Perhaps the day will come when both the natural resources AND the population are no longer considered exploitable commodities  :old:

I would like a geo thermal heating unit in our house, but it would cost about 60k to get it installed, but can heat for around $50 a month vs 1400 a month :aok
