Ta-154
« on: July 16, 2013, 11:51:39 AM »
I was Reading my old Air Force JROTC aircraft book. And read more in-depth on the Ta-154. now maybe someone can help confirm this but it said that and i quote "Although production was abandoned, seven had been completed and served in a night fight unit in january 1945. if infact  people dig up more info on this the aircraft could be a nice add. i know what you guys are gonna say "its a night fighter" and "Only seven were used" but cmon do you think it would really matter if it was a nightfighter. people would still use it in daytime in the MA even if we had a "night time". and if numbers are the case for arguement then the 163 and 152 can be argued over all day if numbers that were used were the case.

Eidt. Once i get my scanner working i will post the pictures from my JROTC Air Force  book of aircraft.

These are images i found on the web of the aircraft.

Hopefully someone will come along with more info. I have found info on other aircraft before that people stated did not serve, and info has come along stating they did "CoughF7FCough" lol but that will be for another arguement. this arguement is for the Ta-154.

Edit. This is a quote from the page in the book.

"Develpoment of the Ta 154 started in September 1942, after the first 1000 bomber raids had revealed the weaknesses of the German defences. The program was so ugent that the first prototype was flown within a year, and 250 Ta-154-1 production aircraft were ordered. Unfortunatly the factory producing the glue used to bind the aircraft's wooden components was destroyed in one of bombing raids that the aircraft was designed to prevent. Another type of adhesive was substituted on production aircraft but, on June 28 1944, only two weeks after its first flight, the second aircraft crashed when its wings disintegrated in flight. It was discovered that the new glue contained too much acid, which had weakened the glued joints. Another suffered the same fate and production was abandoned in august 1944. meanwhile, another seven airframes had been completed and were used operationally by one night fighter unit in January 1945.

Didn't the 154 have issues with the wooden wings delaminating do to poor glue?

I would rather see the 219 or 129 included than a plane that was built in smaller numbers than the TA 152.

i'd go with what Karnak has. unless you have more than 1 book that shows the same info...the one you're using is wrong.

Im not hear to say if one side has wrong or right information. and i am not trying to debate that or say that. however i will look for more books on world aircraft. plus i do not believe a book issued by the airforce for learning would ever be wrong about anything. but for now for arguements sake both pieces of info are correct.
