"Develpoment of the Ta 154 started in September 1942, after the first 1000 bomber raids had revealed the weaknesses of the German defences. The program was so ugent that the first prototype was flown within a year, and 250 Ta-154-1 production aircraft were ordered. Unfortunatly the factory producing the glue used to bind the aircraft's wooden components was destroyed in one of bombing raids that the aircraft was designed to prevent. Another type of adhesive was substituted on production aircraft but, on June 28 1944, only two weeks after its first flight, the second aircraft crashed when its wings disintegrated in flight. It was discovered that the new glue contained too much acid, which had weakened the glued joints. Another suffered the same fate and production was abandoned in august 1944. meanwhile, another seven airframes had been completed and were used operationally by one night fighter unit in January 1945
