Joystick just died, need opinons on replacement
« on: July 10, 2013, 09:04:53 PM »
So my old :old: faithful Sidewinder Precision 2 just soiled the bedsheets. Looking at several replacement options and need opinions since I don't have the $$ for a Hotas Warthog. Here's the Options listed by Most likely buying-

1. Hotas X Flight Stick- http://www.gamestop.com/accessories/hotas-x-flight-stick/95660

2. Thrustmaster - T-Flight Stick X- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Thrustmaster+-+T-Flight+Stick+X+for+PlayStation+3+and+Windows/1306360447.p?id=mp1306360447&skuId=1306360447

3. Cyborg X Joystick- http://www.gamestop.com/pc/accessories/cyborg-x-joystick/77761#media

Any positive input is appreciated :salute

i had a cyborg x stick...lasted a year then went to poop. i now have a t-flight hotas x, going on 3 years now, and the only thing giving me any issue is the hat switch but it's a minor issue. the hotas x has a lot of buttons, it's heavy duty and it has stood up to some abuse. i like the throttle and i used the rocker switch for rudder instead of using the twisty.

you can get it cheaper at walmart or amazon...

get a ch fighterstick.  I only had to calibrate it twice today.   I never had this many problems when I had my x-52.

In that price range I have been using the HotasX and still like it a lot. I suppose the  T-Flight stick is the right hand variation of the same, so why not take the two hand system for almost the same price.

If you want a quality one hand stick, the Thrustmaster T-16000M is a good choice still fitting in the price category: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/T-16000M+Flight+Stick+for+Windows/5960033.p?id=1218707954611&skuId=5960033&st=t16000m&cp=1&lp=1
Many former Sidewinder users have bought that after their old faithful has died.

win7.  going over 2 different mobo's and 2 sticks.  3 if you count the one I returned after two days.  one of the squadies instructed me on how to clean the inside and make sure all the wires are connected properly but I havent been able to remove 2 screws, they seem kind of tight and I have almost stripped them.

when I lose calibration my airplane has a tendency to go upside down and I get the dreaded "dont move the controls so rapidly".  I have crashed into the water so many times that it is rediculos as I am diving on a shalow dive with me trying to level out low on the water.

seriously I never had this many problems with my x-52.  I cant even gv as I have to fight the stick to stay on target.  same for field guns or ship guns, unless I am on land mode or sea mode.  but I suspect this maybe a bug somewhere.

Had a HOTAS X over a year. Got to where I couldn't hold a steady shot. Went back to Thrustmaster T16000M. Like night and day. I can hold a steady shot.

I'm resigned to the fact that sticks won't last like the Sidewinders did.

I thought Amazon was a good buy.

I just got to try out my brother in laws t-16000m tonight. I use all CH products, but after we set his up and tweaked the setting a bit I was very impressed at how steady and smooth the stick is. I'm temped to break my CH so the wife will let me get a new stick  :devil

I'm going to try the Thrustmaster T16000M when my next Saitek stick breaks but my current AV8R has been holding up for a couple of years now and I've still got a new ST290 waiting to be used.

Good choice! Add a pair of pedals for a four limb experiment. If you have an old steering wheel with pedals lying around, you can configure the pedals to work in AH, too.

Just out of curiosity because I use a sidewinder pre pro, how did yours "die". And in response to what semp posted, CH sticks require calibrating? That sucks because I actually just bid on a ch fighterstick yesterday.

You just need to calibrate it once in Windows (using the Control Manager software) after you've connected it to a USB port.  Usually, the only time you'll need to recalibrate it in Windows is if you've disconnected it and then plugged it back in.

When I was using my CH stick (using a Warthog now) running through a Belkin powered hub I only calibrated it once in windows. I used it without a problem for more than six years, used a gameport version before that. I still have the CH as backup in case anything happens to the Warthog.

I will say the t16000 looks good, and people say good things about it, but I have no actual experience with one.
