Using two monitors
« on: August 17, 2013, 05:21:46 AM »
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and my graphics cards is a GeForce GT520. I have my desktop configured across two monitors, and while I know I can't use the second monitor in the game, I'd like to be able to view other things on it while AH is displayed on the main monitor - for example, to call up clipboard maps through a separate picture viewer rather than in-game. However, when I run AH, the second monitor becomes useless - things displayed on it mostly either disappear, become transparent, or are moved to the first monitor (and thus can't be seen since AH takes up all the primary monitor), and my mouse cursor won't leave the AH game window. The second monitor works fine when not gaming, and it shows up fine in the NVIDIA Control Panel and in DXDiag.

I have found that if I minimize the game, I can drag things to the second monitor and they will stay visible there when I bring the game back up, but I still can't interact with them (to change which image I'm viewing, for example) without minimizing AH.

Is this something inherent in the video card that I can't fix, or is there a setting somewhere I need to set in order to make the second monitor usable while AH is running - and if so, what?

(I used the search function but didn't find any threads on a similar issue - just several mentions that the game won't work properly with two monitors, but a number of folks use a 2nd one as I'd like to, to display things other than the game.)

There is nothing you can do about. AH would be required to run in windowed mode, which it can not do.

You mentioned clipboard maps... Did you know Pand has his strat maps available also as a .pdf, which will work fine even on a smartphone, not to speak about tablets. I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Right, it's a game function to not let you do other things out side the game. I have put things up on my second monitor to view while I was flying. The maps I have pieced all together on a single "page" and load that up on the second screen. That way they are all there even if I can't interact with them.
