The difference is that in every other profession they are not protected and they are not above the law.  We all know what happens if one of you gets pulled over right?  Just show your badge and its all good.

Perk of the Job get over it or pay them more  a LOT MORE

hey, no one is forcing anyone to join any profession. If it does not pay enough quit and try to survive like the rest of us.

So the perk is to break the law?  So if you are a banker the perk should be  ....?  A pharmacist?

Like every profession there are good ones and bad ones.

I am probably heading towards a law enforcement career at some point after I finish University.

I will say it before and I'm saying it again. When my Great Grandad walked the beat in London, everyone knew he was a cop, everyone knew he was there to keep everyone safe. The criminals knew that he was out there watching, and they knew, should they start, he will finish.

Cops are there to clean up the streets, there are all sorts of lowlifes out there wanting to rob, rape, murder, tag and burgle anything and everything. And besides responsible gun owners, they are the only line of defence against them. So everyone who gives police officers crap, just remember, they are there because you need them. If you did something to get his attention, unless he is bent or otherwise incompetent, you are in the wrong.

BS. What you do at one department follows you. The good old boy system is alive and well in Police departments and while they may not be able to legally tell another department about the actions that got you fired, you can rest assured that the exact reasons will be well know be the hiring department. Oh and he was absolutely right in what he did in that situation if what we've been shown is true.
BS. Unless they pull their certification they bounce. We get recycled cops thru here on a regular basis. They screw up in the metro area then move to a neighboring county SO. When that blows up they go from town to town. It's letting the bad apples go with nothing worse than "a would not rehire" on their employment record.

That's the nature of small town PDs. It's a stepping stone going up or coming down. They can't keep anyone worth a damn around for long because they will move on to bigger pay so you end up with with the bottom of the barrel to choose from. You want decent cops? Pay them

I do agree on that one. Cops should be paid more but also be held accountable. That way you will end up with mostly good ones and the few bad will behave in fear of losing the pay.

hello, Jack here. If we agree that every job has them, why the name calling?  I do have one. One that pays based on performance and if I act like a moron I dont have one any more. How about you?  Do u have one with 'perks'?

The people we pay to upheld the law seem to consider breaking the law a perk?  Need I say more?  It is guys like you that give the good guys a bad name  :salute

That was my exactly my point. There's a good 'ol boy system in place as surfinn says, it just doesn't operate like he thinks.

here's the deal.

when someone decides to be a police officer, for whatever reason.....they KNOW that there's danger that comes with the territory. with this knowledge, officers should know to NEVER go to a 911 call......ESPECIALLY a domestic.....without expecting problems, danger, or a fight of some sort.

i know a guy that worked up from patrolman to chief in his town. we used to talk about this kind of stuff all the time. he NEVER went to a domestic alone. he NEVER took it lightly. he handled ALL of them as if someone was about to try to kill him.

i hate to say it, but anything that happened to this officer was brought onto him by himself. chances are very good that he didn't follow protocol somewhere, and that's what allowed the situation to deteriorate to this point.

i don't mean any offense towards anyone, but that's my outlook on it.
