Saw this at the range today
« on: September 04, 2013, 09:55:26 PM »
I went shooting today at my local public shooting range.  I think we need a new rules sign because the one we have is so worn out that I couldn't read any of the rules.

I hope you guys thought it was as funny as I did.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

Actually it's sad. Makes me worry about who's armed and who isn't.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Those warnings are there to help protect everyone's safety. Range rules are a good idea to follow. I personally have talked to two people who had shot themselves, and it was not a fun experience for either.

Even worse are the holes in the highway signs. Somewhere at the end of that bullets trajectory somebody's kid is sleeping.

I don't know how serious your Range Master(s) take their jobs at your ranges. But, here, light messing around is likely to result in a stern warning with Master's hand on his sidearm. Anything more than light messing around is likely going to be met with a Master's sidearm pointed at your face.

Here they don't tolerate anyone breaking any rules and offenders will be told to leave immediately if they do it twice. Many of our ranges are staffed by some sort of law enforcement (G&F usually,) thus they have the authority to arrest too.
They're casting their bait over there, see?

That sounds about as idiotic as shooting a sign.

Pointing a loaded weapon at someone, whether accidentally or unintentionally presents a dangerous situation; one in which any LEO has the responsibility to protect those in harms way.

Where did I mention felony? Disobeying the rules, some of which are laws, will result in arrest. Furthermore, after the first warning, further disobeying the rules, again, some of which are laws and disobeying a LEO telling you to stop breaking such rules/laws can be construed as obstructing law enforcement.

Do you spend much time at shooting ranges? Sure doesn't seem like it. Try screwing around at an AZ shooting range and see what happens.

Its actions like that, that leads to ranges getting closed, innocent people getting hurt (or worse), homes in the area getting hit....leading to the ranges getting closed.....Im really tired of moronic "shooters" actions affecting legitimate..safe shooters.....so in a nutshell, that photo is just sad.  If i got out of my car, and saw a sign like that, id get right back in my car.....I really do enjoy breathing, and god willing, i get to do so for a long time....not to mention the example it sets for youngsters getting into the shooting sports......thats just beyond stupid and pathetic

(Just to clarify, the above is not pointed at you  in any way Rob, just my opinion of the people that did that to the sign)

Ive been a RO for a long time at my friends indoor range and gunshop, and anyone that 1. breaks the rules 2. acts in anyway,  in the ROs opinion, could put anyone in harms way, is immediately told to make the weapon safe, case it and asked to leave, no arguement.....you leave period. If said person will not leave, or gives me a hard time, Law enforcement is called, and the people are made to leave..

Ive only had this happen on one occasion, and the person was less than happy being told to leave, thankfully 2 booths over was Lt.Merrigan of the local PD...needless to say it ended quickly and the person left.

(we let all the local Federal, State and Local law enforcement officers shoot at our range for free.....just good business that has paid off in spades. People that shoot there know that many many LEOs hang out at our range, and act accordingly.

In the same breath, I asked a Philadelphia police officer   to leave the range for sweeping his buddies twice with the muzzle of his service weapon, if i think they are breaking the rules, or not acting in a safe manner your out regardless....

It's an unsupervised public shotgun range, there is no range master aside from the visitors.

I imagine it was shot by people who ran out of targets before running out of ammo.  I don't believe the vandals were being dangerous per se.  After visiting every shop in town we only managed to find one lonely box of clay pigeons to purchase and after those were gone ended up throwing planks of wood.   Once those were gone we resorted to making cut slugs out of the remaining birdshot and fired them at the empty beer cases some youths left the parking area.

:huh Ahh... drinking and firearms.  Both are so much better when combined.

That range sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

This is why we cannot have nice things.

My local range got attacked by stupid people a couple years ago.  What was once nice benches and shelters for separate pistol and rifle ranges became shot up and generally trashed.  Luckily, a combination of state and local organizations pitched in and fixed all the stupid.  Hopefully it stays that way this time.

If an RO tried that where I'm from, they would not like the results. I've never been chewed out by an RO, but if they did that to one of the rednecks, they would have about 10 rednecks with guns pointed right back at them.

Yes, only slightly unprofessional.

Also the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of as the first course of action.

Anyone that intentionally draws on another person in that manner better be prepared to pull the trigger, as I would be likely reciprocate in that situation.
