In a situation like that, with your family in the car, the only way you can think to go is 'forward'.. unless you've been trained for such high-stress situations (IE Military, SWAT, so on so forth)

completely disagree.

I never said I'd do anything you blathering nincompoop. I was reciting what the law says.

Nor am I "pretending" anything. I do have much expertise in the criminal enforcement area.

Widewing of the trolls in this thread you surprise me the most. I actually expected more maturity and moral fiber out of you.

GScholz Scandinavians generally are a dignified people. I guess your the one designated sweetheartbag.

Thanks to the thoughtful posters who dont feel the need to crap with the herd and can make morale stands. We'll let justice take its course here.

I have zero tolerance for hooligans who terrorize innocent people. ZERO. Did you see any of this group's other videos? They thrive on harassing citizens and the police. These are not kids.... Many are in their middle 30s. There's not a doubt in my mind that Lien being Asian was a factor...

Calling me troll is what I expected, and I could care less. Your opinion on anything related to this is certainly dubious, at best.

You are not alone in your thinking.

This group thrives upon intimidating drivers.  Before the first hit you can see these bananas riding along side, taunting, and looking in the windows (and NOT as a casual passer-by).  They were trying to cause a ruckus (many/most of them, though not all).

While I wish for no harm to anyone, but sometimes karma is a beetch.  If you want to ride with the big dogs just remember there are even bigger dogs out there.  I hope all involved get what they have coming to them.

If you have ever driven in NYC, you would understand where I am coming from.

Driving in the city is, in and of itself, a high stress situation.

You could get off of any exit, at any time of day and traffic could be backed-up for blocks.  Even staying on the highway is not a sure-fire way to avoid that.

He was going forward, exiting was not the wisest of choices, unfortunately.

Not really. Common sense and some basic handgun training go a long way.

I'll say it again...

1) The bikers clearly intended to cause the SUV to rear end him and was looking back anticipating the collision.
2) Once the family noticed that the bikers were following him, why did he drive further into the city? He should have drove to the nearest police/highway patrol station...

I understand that the driver was stressed, understandably, but as others have stated, why then go into the city?

I suspect that there is more going on than what we all have been informed and without the whole picture we are just blowing steam.

The guy was more than likely just trying to keep going afraid of what would happen if he stopped. And he was right. Why not drive further in to the city? More people, more police one would think. I would have thought he would have ran across a damn cop at some point during the 50 block terror chase in NYC. Where were all the armored assault vehicles they tool around in when you need one? When you call 911 from a cell phone they can plot your position and the dispatcher may have been telling him where to go as well.

Ive seen the video. Obviously you didnt see in my post where I said traffic altercation CAN be started by just one party or that its possible this was MC, as in motorcycling, wilding.

But you still dont know what started it. Jeez am I the only objective one around here?

Look not that news paper articles actually tell what actually happened but now they are reporting   In other words "nobody knows what fracking happened and the Police are still collecting evidence".

Its possible the biker was actually slowing down in order to slow down the others, to organize the ride, and some sort of verbal confrontation happened. You'll notice an obvious verbal exchange at about 0.18 in the video. He might have been trying to warn the driver of the SUV he was slowing down the group and get them all together. The driver of the SUV had plenty of time to slow down as well and NOT hit the MC driver initially. Then, apparently, there was no physical contact before the SUV driver decided to run over a few bikers and take off.

So how pissed would you be if you saw your friends ran over by an SUV on purpose?

My guess is, based on 30 years of doing this stuff, that the visceral reactions among many is do to the fact the actual attackers of the SUV are black. But even there there is a clue. The Bikers are both white and black so we can rule out bike gangs or street gangs cause they dont mix. Besides there were no Harleys and biker or street gangs dont wear fruity colored helmets and with either the entire affair would have ended with gun fire anyways. Its very likely the entire thing started by accident and progressed thru miscalculation and over reaction.

But I dont know. And neither do any of you. Being a black kid on a motorcycle isnt a crime, nor does it automatically make you a criminal. We have a lot of problems with "flash mobs" here, or "wilding", but Ive never ever seen a racially mixed one.

This is the most obtuse line of reasoning that I've seen in a long time....

300 out of control bikers, riding on sidewalks, passing on the shoulders, speeding, driving unregistered, uninsured bikes and quads. Later, 55 bikes and quads impounded. 7 knives and one .32 cal pistol collected. A dozen arrests not related to the Lien incident. All of this and you really believe that who started the Lien lunacy is in doubt? Seriously? NYPD and the DA Office have already classified it as a "gang attack", and are considering adding a hate crime charge (because Lien and family are Asian). Lien told police that this whole thing started when several bikers rode very close to his vehicle while weaving back and forth. Lien stated that he beeped his horn and several bikers became enraged.

You assume that we can rule out that "bikers are both white and black so we can rule out bike gangs or street gangs cause they dont mix." Wrong assumption. Many in this crowd didn't know more than a few of the participants. This isn't about race, it's about a sub-culture. A sub-culture that ignores the law and has a complete disregard for the safety of ordinary drivers and pedestrians. Their videos clearly establish this. Here's four videos shot by the same guy, earlier, just before the encounter with Lien.

You state, "Then, apparently, there was no physical contact before the SUV driver decided to run over a few bikers and take off." More nonsense. There's rock solid evidence (from the video, the Lien family and other witnesses) that the mob attempted to get into the Rover, and slashed two tires. So, Lien is surrounded by a mob, some wielding knives and trying to get into his vehicle. Your comment, "the SUV driver decided to run over a few bikers and take off", is preposterous on it's face. You know, there's objective and then there's obtuse. You, my friend, seem inclined to the latter.

What if he was undercover?

What if a pirate ship swooped out of the sky and showed them their booty?   :lol

The detective in question, was not on duty nor working this group under cover. He was on his own time, doing his own thing. His career is over (as it should be) and he will very fortunate to escape some jail time. The DA wants to make an example of this guy, as does the NYPD brass. He was directly involved in attacking the Range Rover, breaking a window, which shattered all over the infant in the back seat. All seen on video not yet released by the DA's Office.
