they've seemed to keep a bit of "normalcy?" to their pricing. i've bought 45acp from them, at what i feel is decently low pricing.

overall, even back in the beginning of the year, when people were reporting absurd prices for pretty much everything....i was scoring 30-06, 308win, and 7.62x54r for some decently low prices.

I'm surprised it is scarce all around. I work at a sporting goods store...normally bricks are off the shelves within an hour or two. The 50 rd packs last 3 days max. It is absolutely pathetic. I have had people admit they do not own a gun, but buy the ammo to sell. Just stupid.

My local shop has experienced non-gun owners buying 22 ammo to resell. He refuses to sell to them. Your management should do likewise. It'll sell quick enough.

The story I got from the gun-guy at my local Big-R is that the EPA published a rule (6H, I believe) back in 2011 banning use of certain heavy metals, which happen to be used in rimfire primers.  This put a crimp in 22 LR production.  Don't know how much truth there is to this, but 6H does exist.

<Here I am!>

Seriously - what's going on in the States?  Used to, you could go to any Walmart and find your brand; whether it be Remington, Winchester, CCI, etc..

It's been a long time since I had the need to buy ammo..

Ammo

With supply's depleted dealers show up at 3am when they unload truck and buy it all then mark up the price in their stores

.22 rimfire is in short supply, but most other calibers, can be found without any trouble.

My favorite online source is SGAmmo.

Need some 5.56/.223? They have plenty at reasonable prices. They have a decent, if not large selection of 9mm ammo (although they are currently out of 9mm ball).

Much of their pistol ammo is self defense types, such JHP. I bought 200 rounds of Starfire 125 grain JHP +P .38 special and 200 rounds of Hornady Critical Duty 135 grain 9mm. I now have enough ammo for the home, and enough to hit the range a few times as well. I load the .38 special in my Rossi .357, and the 9mm in my Marlin Camp 9.

They also have a huge selection of 12 gauge ammo, and I highly recommend Rio as a best buy in first rate shotgun ammo. I bought 100 rounds of 2 3/4"  Rio Star (1410 FPS) 1.125 oz rifled slugs at $3.50 per box of 5. Excellent stuff, shoots as accurate as the big name US made ammo.

I'm looking for some AA hull's too for reloading . I have a friend that's got a old wingmaster that I'm going to get .

I just don't see what the deal is on the 22 cal . Look's like it be the cheapest to make and easy to make as well ?

Personally I think the hold up is on one area. The spot between the factory and the retailers. Those are the folks extending the gouging in the country. They have made some money given the political situation in the last 6 years and this is a way to keep the goose laying the golden eggs. I have serious doubts the factories have raised their wholesale prices substantially to the distributors but those distributors are certainly raising theirs.

while we may not like it, it's pretty simple. supply/demand. right now, the demand is outrunning the supply, or the supply that the manufacturers can produce, so price is up.

I can't see that many people loading up or holding the ammo . I bet if you could find out how many are being made in a day just at one factory it blow your mind . Can't be that many being shot I wouldn't think it be more 222 cal being shot than 22 cal .

i forget if it was ammoland, or one of the other gun sites......they'd interviewed some people from different ammunition manufacturers. they seem to be mostly running 24/7 trying to keep up. is some of that demand people buying to resell at higher prices? of course. it's how money's made. i know quite a few that're hoarding their ammo. i know quite a few that're shooting more now than ever. given the current climate(for the last 6 or so years, and more so in the last year or so), it's pretty understandable that there's a shortage.....and it's gonna be quite awhile before it gets better.
