B-17F

Why isn't there a B-17F already?  :furious

The F model was an important piece of WWII mid war history.

G model

I am not informed on this subject, so I am going to ask this.

What is the significant difference between the B17F and G versions than what we have now?

If we have something to show we will & do post shots, if we have nothing new to show we don't.

Why the skins of course! Memphis belle, Ye Olde pub, etc. And mid war arena...  :airplane: That's AH anyway.

In real life one was faster, likely the G model, but I think the F had a higher service ceiling. Fighters can complain about alt tards all they want  :neener:

There were some other traits, but I'm to hammered to look them up right now.

The B-17F was the faster one as it lacked the drag of the chin turret. Powerplants were the same so if the F had a higher service ceiling it was through being lighter.

The difference in the F and G models were that the F model didn't have much defensive firepower for headon attacks from german fighters and the chin turret was added to the G model for that reason.

Tail gun is different in the F as well.  Doesn't cover anywhere as well as the G's.

Early Gs also lacked the Cheyenne tail turret. The B-17G in AH does have a Cheyenne tail turret.

:airplane: Aside from he chin turret, armour plating on the "G" for crew protection. I would guess that is the reason for the difference in the bomb load, 8K for F, 6K for the G. The F model had a 56,500 lb gross takeoff weight and the G had a 65,500 lb gross takeoff weight. That 10,000 lbs would make a lot of difference in their performance.

G's max bomb load was technically 16,000lbs, but that required the use of underwing hard points that were rarely, if ever, used and massively reduced its operational range.  Given the bomb bay of the G and F were the same size I believe their typical bomb loads would also be the same sizes.

If what was said in the Custom Skins forum is true that B-17F skins are not allowed on the B-17G that would indicate that HTC would like to add the B-17F at some point in the future.

I've called for the "F" in the Wishlist a few times. Would be a great addition for historical reasons.

The question is, what skin will be default for the F?  There are several famous F's, but I get the feeling that it will NOT be Memphis Belle that is default. :headscratch:

Not every default skin is a "famous" scheme.
