 isnt this a little bit ONE sided for the planes set???  i mean. this is going to be a high alt event, the piston engined german fighter that were used in the HIGH alt role also had the AS high alt engine available...AND metyhenol/water injection(mw50).....these are NOT in aces high.......and so what has been done in this fantasy is add the best bomber the allies have and left the axis plane set with what it usually gets.   what should be added is the ar 234 as the scout,as they were used in the recon role,and MORE me 262's to target the b-29's, and two groups of me163 to be used in two different target areas. this would be MORE historically accurate for the fantasy event,and can be done with what we have available.

As a dedicated High altitude bomber hunter I must disagree Alpini.  I think that the TA152 will be the best aircraft to intercept the B29's.  Please remember that the B29 is only a part of the bomber forces we may expect.  The 262 while formidable will do excellent as our scout.  It will be important for them to give precise information on bomber formations so the fighters will be set up for the intercept.

I expect the axis forces to be duly tasked to win this next FSO and I welcome the challenge.  We are also not fielding any bombers ourselves so our focus shall certainly have a chance of success.

While I agree that most might feel the allies have the advantage over all the challenge to the axis forces will bring out the best of our competition.  I agree with Zoney on the Aircraft.  Me-262 is better for scouting.  It lacks performance above 30K.  The TA-152 excels at the high altitudes and makes a better interceptor.  Depending on altitude I also believe the Me-110G-2 can contribute to the interception of the bombers if they do not exceed 25-28K.  I do agree though that some Me-163's be allowed.  As a probable allied pilot I also look forward to the challenge.

As every Late War Europe AH Scenario, AND FSO Set-up has shown...

...short of jets and rockets only...properly assigned, deployed, and flown...the Fw190A-8 is hands down far and away the most lethal Luftwaffe aircraft available for this mission against both escort and bomber. It is what you do, with what you're given, that carries the day.  Don't take my word for it.  The history of logs are open to all.

Bino...god bless him my BFF...already took more heat over this set up from his friends than he'll ever get out here anyway...so pick away...he has broad shoulders.  I got so heated with him I had to apologise.

The Luftwaffe over Germany in this setup...as always...has all the advantages, and a little tougher task I would think would be welcomed, not ridiculed.

I'll take any prop plane in the setup and chase the raiders back to France.  Anyway...I am certain should Frame 1 see an Allied rout of disproportionate measure...adjustments would be made...though I would be ashamed myself to see that.

anyone know what the climb time to 30k is for a b29 with a max bomb load and 50% fuel?

not that alpini is completely wrong...the absence of high altitude spec mainline luftwaffe aircraft is glaring in setups like this one. however, this setup will be a challenge for the luftwaffe but it is not completely lopsided. the k4, dora and 152 are very capable at 30k+ feet.

Wouldn't a historical aspect also require a almost even match of Axis vs Allied fighters (or possibly the Allies having more)? Then also add in the bombers to the Allied side.


As Stampf said, these fights are always a knock down drag out contest. Without actually pouring over the logs the it's my perception that the Axis win on the side of air - air kills and force the Allied bombers to destroy as much as they can to get us some points. The Allied escorts are for the most part overwhelmed when it comes to fighter vs fighter numbers.

I don't think this will be that lopsided.  I've normally flown axis in this type of setup, BOG I think was similiar without the 29's obviously.  Will the 29's be the factor that makes the difference here?  nobody knows until we try it.  If it throws it off, then plane numbers can be adjusted for following frames.  I do agree though that a G series 109 AS is sorely lacking in our planeset.

My only issue is the one life for the Me 163 pilots, and the nature of their aircraft.


1) you cannot rearm it.
2) VERY little powered loiter time after the climb to 30k. This means sitting on the runway until bombers come relatively close
3) very limited ammunition
4) landing may very well be dead stick


I mean essentially, we'll be telling at least 5 players that they'll be sitting in the tower or on runway for most of the event, and that after their one sortie, they're done for the night.
