Why would you wear all that camo stuff + camo paint to hunt ducks?
Doesn't that make you more likely to not be seen and possibly in danger from other hunters?
Do ducks have really good eyes when it comes to spotting humans pointing guns at them or something?
Valid questions. Ducks when flying in to a pond/lake like that one definitely circle around looking for any predators or something out of the ordinary. Yes camo is definitely necessary in the type of blind we were hunting. Even while camoed and painted up you can scare them away if you look up at them until you are ready to shoot. Day 2 we were hunting we were hunting in ground/layout type blinds which are these coffin style things all camoed up you pop out of and shoot. Also the more ducks you have flying in the greater the chance of getting busted.
There's really no danger from other hunters not with the group. This was private land but even when hunting public land the range on a shotgun is pretty limited. 70 yards and that shot is falling out of the sky. The potential danger from firearms is from other hunters in your specific group mishandling their shotguns. This is why everybody you go with needs to be a responsible hunter.
Ducks have plenty good enough eyesight to bust you if you don't do things right. They also have an aerial view of course. There are exceptions but you can ruin a hunt if you don't set up and hunt correctly.
These ducks are shot in the air flying while being called in to the decoy spread.
Finally the biggest financial supporter of Wetlands and Waterfowl Conservation is a group supported by hunters, called Ducks Unlimited. One of the main reasons there exists a really good population of ducks is because of responsible hunter support.
