Interesting Ink. My wife used to get these at least once a year. She then had an old school doctor tell her to drink cranberry juice. She does so on a regular basis, once a month or so she'll buy a gallon and drink it for a week. She hasn't had one for a decade now.

This is not scientific just old school and worked. Based on Ink's thought I would do a little research.

Ink is right.

Pain is relative.
I fell 25 feet while working, about 10 years ago.

My right leg was completely shattered just below the hip.  I was in the hospital for 2 weeks, a wheel chair for almost 6 months.  I lived in a rented hospital bed in my living room for almost a year...

I dislocated my shoulder a few months ago in a basketball game...  I hardly noticed, even when they were putting it back into place.

Experience real pain and the minor stuff becomes....  well...  pretty minor...

the worst pain I ever felt by far....is the thought I would lose my wife and the death of my 14 yr old brother when I was 10.

that kind of pain is forever and nothing gets rid of it....

physical pain ehh...I tattooed the ol donut for an hour.... :D

Trust me... The mixed stuff is terrible.

I always thought the acid in cranberry juice is like Drano, guess not. I'd much rather learn that over a BBS than in real life.

A short(now funny) story of Kidney stones and maybe the worst bedside manor for a Doctor.  I went to see him for prostate cancer.  As part of the first test, they did x-rays.  At the end of the first cancer meeting to decide what to do(all well now) with him the Doc says, " Follow me.  I have something extraordinary to show you."

We went down to the room that they use to view x-rays and he jabbed mine onto one of the x-ray view things.  He said, " look at all those kidney stones and that one giant one(marble size).  I've never seen anything like it."

Then he looked at me and wife and said," Of course with that other problem, we may not even have to worry about these."

My wife and I went out to get in the car.  Look at each other and asked each other if he really said that then we broke out into a big laugh since it was so bizarre for him to say that.

My best advice, don't let yourself become dehydrated. Judge how much to drink by how often you pee.  If you are not peeing regularly you are not drinking enough.  If you drink a lot of soft drinks cut way back and switch to water.  Not sure if this is a fix or not but I have a lemon tree and end up drinking lemonade more than most folks.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I do drink a LOT of water. I'm a chef by trade and the kitchen environment demands hydration = 1 gal of water daily on average. Urologists will suggest adding lime or lemon juice to the water, which I do when I'm able.

Just spoke with my primary care doc. Chances are one of two interventions will occur, shock wave therapy (which may cause excessive bleeding) or Ureteroscoy via the noodle....please God noooooooooooooooo.

I'll let you know what shakes out. Wish I COULD just shake it out  :bhead

Randy1...I've been dealing with prostate cancer since '11. Wound up having robotic "Da Vinci" surgery to remove the prostate. Pathology reveal cancerous margins which led to 37 IRBT radiation treatments. So far, PSA tests have been very good. Shoot me a PM if you need to discuss your ordeal. Good luck!!

I had both proceedures for a 1cm stone lodged in my right Kidney.  Both procedures are no big deal because you are knocked out.  The first attempt on my stone was by ureteroscope which was unsuccessful.  The doctor feared he may have caused some trauma to my kidney, so I woke up with a stent.  Another story and it wasn't any fun.

The second procedure was  shock wave lithotripsypy, which was successful.  Ending us peeing out a bunch of stones for a couple of weeks.  Had very little discomfort when passing the busted up stones.  Not sure why, because I have a long history of stones and have suffered through the pain, but I really had very little pain when passing these stones.  I did have some pain pills on standby just in case.

I would suggest going with the shock wave Lithotripsypy since it is less evasive.  There is a chance of bleeding of the kidneys, but there is no procedure without risk.  I think the risk of using the scope is larger than the bleeding.

Max I had the Divinci too but it failed so they had to switch to open surgery.  That was five years ago and everything is good to go now.  I hope your PSA stays low too.

To get my stones out they first put a tube to the kidney then the next day they went through the tube and busted them up, then did that again the next day, then a week latter finished it with the sound busting thing.  None of these were bad at all so don't sweat the method. Man if you got past the prostate thing this stone business  is a piece of cake.   :)

It has been five years since the kidney stones.  I have been lucky for sure.

Sorry  to hear you guys suffering:  :pray
On top of genetics can add this artificial diet ,gmo overprocessed foods, most of the liquids we drink are made with fluoridated water  and our long  digestive tube was not designed for meat. But we are the happy humans to afood the daily food. I believe switching to mostly vegetarian diet ,@ any age can add years to our lives, and let the other creature enjoy the life as is written in our instruction manual.

Why did Da Vinci fail?

Nobody is really sure.  They had problems with my ventilation.  My weight was not an issue nor my lung capacity.  You know they turn you upside down.  Anyway after several attempts they switched to the open.  Not much difference anyway.
