of all my 40+ years of watching soccer, the most dedicated teams in effort and really wish they had a bit more skill, are japan and korea.  Brazil has always been the most skilled team in the last 40 years.  to bad they dont make an effort to really win every cup.  they finish the game without breaking a sweat.

No way Mexico is getting out of the group stage, they have been absolutely horrible this year

England have a good Group.  They should get through the Group stage...IF...and it always appears to be a VERY BIG IF they don't play the "boot it up the field and pray someone gets on the other end of it" style of football they continually display in World Cup games.

The problem with England's football team is we have so few English players playing for big clubs nowadays. Since UK club football TV rights were sold to the highest bidder there has been a lot of money sloshing around the game and many top clubs have been bought by foreigners as investments. These owners then hire foreign coaches, who then hire foreign players attracted by big wages. England can still put out a decent team if everyone is fit, but if key players are injured there is no one to back them up.

USA's best chance is if Ronaldo gets injured before the tournament.

England's team is ALWAYS rife with talent.  That has not been the problem at all in the last few World Cups.  The problem has been the style of play and the lack of a cohesive strategy imho.

Players hoof the ball up field in the general direction of a teammate and pray.

If they could just return to old school football and build their attacks slowly and methodically they would do well.  A return to traditional "get it out to the wing and cross it" would be nice.  Pick a team that can do that, forget about how much each player is paid, and coach this into them.  If anything the matches would be far more interesting and frankly would save a lot of yelling and screaming at the TV in frustration from me personally every four years.  :furious :furious

5-3-2-1

That's the way I learned it....in school, in the colonies and in England. :rock

I agree with Curval, and I'll be pulling for England to make it through.  It would be great for football if the USA did as well, and I hope they can somehow pull something off.

England problem comes down to an age old subconscious mindset that we seem to have. The 'lets make a game of it boys' attitude. For some unknown reason English people seem to enjoy the pressure far more than a resounding victory. Almost like the tortoise and the hare syndrome. Half the time we end up really trying just a little bit too late after giving the tortoise too much room to take the lead.
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

Agreed Bat we always seem to make the simple things really difficult for ourselves and it costs us.

we have fantastic players and youngsters, I'm really looking forward to storming this world cup as no hopers,  Andros, Wilshere, Barclay we just need a top talent striker/finisher in the Lineker or Shearer mould.  Rooney is more of a support striker IMO.

I think Italy without Pirlo are nothing special and if we pay someone to kill Suarez in the last game of the season we will have a chance of getting to the knock out stages.

I'll blindly pray and hope COME ON ENG-GERR-LAND!!!     :D

at least we will have a manager that speaks the lingo this time like kick it in the net sonny jim.

The Aussies are going to get absolutely molested and destroyed. As are the Americans.

Spain, Netherlands, Portugal, Brazil and Germany are the faves for the Cup next year.
