Personal Nose Art
« on: December 12, 2013, 09:16:44 PM »
<S>

A personal nose art (outside the squad global one) would be excellent :
During wwii, most of fighter pilots had their own personalised nose art on their machine !  :salute

Also, for those who arent in a squad, it would be possible to also get one !  :)

If only I were artistically inclined. If this were allowed I'd have to get a talented nephew and put him to work.
They're casting their bait over there, see?

I'd love to have it, but I don't see it happening. Imagine being in a 30-plane furball and everyone has their own unique nose art. That means 30 pieces of artwork that the game has to load and keep track of for you, on top of skins. AND it has to keep track of all 30 pieces of art for all 30 players in the fight.

That's the other thing: Where would you put it, and how big do you make it?

For example, I think the squad art we have now is primarily located where the squadron insignia was typically located on the aircraft (case in point, US Navy/Marine fighters tended to put squadron markings as a medallion or logo just forward of the cockpit on the starboard side of the fuselage, which is where it displays in game. VF-17 was unusual with the placement of the jolly roger on the cowl).

Some aircraft also had multiple places artwork was displayed. IE, P-38s would place art not just on the nose section, but would also have artwork applied to each engine cowling. Corsairs would generally have art on the cowl, but would also use the forward fuselage, or frequently the tail (particularly VF-17, since the cowl was used for the squadron insignia, but see also my "Vargas Cowgirl" skin).

I can just imagine it being allowed and the first joker puts a middle finger on his airplane, another puts a swastika, and another puts a "i hate xxx politician".  next day personal nose art gets banned.

me personally I would put a picture of my ex wife with a red dot on her forehead.  yeah, like most of you divorced guys wont do the same.

In the 56th my Jug's nose art read "Spare Parts" considering I never bring a single plane back to base that is air worthy anymore.  :D

Were not talking about full aircraft skins, nose art is rather small - but I do agree it would certainly hamper some internets that are slow - especially some on Dialup - the only way this would work if the Image is uploaded to the HTC server and then download from there (like skins, you download them in bulk).

+1 if they can be uploaded, -1 if they can't, no need for more lag for something you can't even see in a furball and only on a runway.
