The Aviationist site had an article last week about USAF aircraft and laser pew pew's. It stated that the DnD and the USAF said by 2025 they will be fielding high power lasers for airborne and ground targets on their tactical aircraft. Having it work on vehicles like this is a pretty cool think as well. Very fast recharge rates for the lasers now make them very capable for multiple targets or repeat shots for misses. They've come a long ways from the Airborne Laser in that 747 that was testing a while back.
I agree with Rich, completely - artillery has always killed the lions share of the enemy during war since it's inception, and if all of a sudden a system comes around that can easily, accurately, and consistently zap the incoming rounds, it'll become irrelevant very quickly. THAT will change the face of modern warfare, as much as it did when artillery first came around.
