While our decks on the "Eisenhower" were a bit bigger, the action never stopped. While launching they would be fueling and loading weapons on the other end of the deck. Switching over to recovery mode would just move the operations to the forward deck where it was out of the way. The hanger bay was mostly used as a repair deck where they did major work on the aircraft.

An angled deck makes a difference, as well, but it seems even with the straight deck
of WWII and Korea, it was close quarters non-stop action.  :)

When I was a kid I had a book on US Navy fighters of WWII that had this pic in it. I lost that book a long time ago. Thanks for the memories!  :aok

Please make the CAG happy and drop the safety chains and raise the hanger elevator on the carrier. It is not like you would have ever launched or recovered aircraft in that configuration, not even sure why it was modeled that way to begin with...  :headscratch:
Saw Arlo's post on this topic, could not stop thinking of it so I hunted down the post:
