What are you paying for high spped internet?
« on: February 03, 2014, 03:48:35 PM »
Sorry Skuzzy, I know this should probably be in tech support but no one will see it there  :cry

I use Comcast cable and get 28 +/- down; about 6 up. Price is $50 @ month. What are you folks (with comparable service) being charged?

   Sonic.net Fusion

With all the California and Fed taxes, it's running 49.95 give or take, each month. That includes the self install modem. It cost me ~$80 for the installation (hookup at the tele office). Sonic's service is comparable to Hitech Creations, that is to say they're excellent.

DSLExtreme is one of their nation wide venders. The price and basic stats are about the same but there are some important differences: gmail, incremental Disk Storage ect. Except for gmail and smaller chunks of Disk Storage, I also loved DSLExtreme.

You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

Right now I'm paying 90$ per month for 100 mbps down 10 mpbs up.  I was paying 120$ for 250 down 25 up, but that got shot down by some wife ack, and I was lucky to not get dropped to the 25 mbps down for 30$ plan.   www.shaw.ca

These prices are far higher than the competition now, so I'm switching to Fiber next month, the local Telco has fiber right into the home, not just to the curb, and I was very lucky to be in the test area for the town I'm in, so we get it a year before everyone else.  It's going to be very cheap too, a bundle deal for the first year where it's pretty much free when we get our TV and phone back through them, in a "win back" over the phone campaign.

It's going to be 260 mbps down, 60 up, and will eventually cost 100$ in the TV bundle, plus another discount for returning.  Normal price is 129$.  Best deal around right now.    http://www.sasktel.com/personal/infiNET/why-infinet.html

There are no limits on use through the Telco, they've never had it, while my current ISP/Cable has a 500 gb limit per month, although it isn't strictly enforced.

Surprised at some of the prices. I'd have thought it would be a lot cheaper in the US, giving economies of scale and all that. Costs are comparable if not lower here in Ireland. I think maybe you guys are being ripped off.

My service is not directly comparable as my TV, phone and 200 meg broadband is bundled along with a few other gimmicks. I pay the equivalent of a $100 a month for all that.

I was paying $50/month for Insight cable broadband but it went up to $55 last year when they got bought by Time Warner.  There is a $6 a month charge to 'rent' the cable modem, but because I use them for cable TV that gets discounted to zero.
