Version 1.05 Patch 5...

There were NO torpedo drop parameters in the INITIAL 1.5 readme (NOT the patch readmes).

Drop parameters for the TBM torpedoes have NEVER been mentioned in a readme.

Hence, I fail to see how people can be bothered by veterans asking gameplay questions on the open channel in the MA when HTC doesn't provide the information in a README.

Help them as you were helped when you were a young dumb whelp...... I remember long long ago when I asked some very  VERY stupid questions. 1.06 WB's I think. Think back to those dazze when you were in thier shoes, for some of you it wasn't that long ago. I answer any question that I happen to notice and if I cant answer it I refer them to the TA or to find a trianer. Most of them dont even know there are trainers or a TA. I would hate to see our trianers get anymore orged than they are as they might start bracketing thier =handles= and acting like they are better than the poor slobs they are suppose to be helping...like in brandX......... I have noticed that if you YELL for a trainer they will answer if one is online. So hopefully we will never need that pesky button that pages trainers.
The only thing I miss about the old BrandX training program was how they would sign up groups of newbies and take them through a thourough and long trianing course were many of them would come out as some pretty badass pilots. Right out of flight school...........

LLB OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

SKurj, a real case two days ago.

I was flying 109, and one minute after taking off from a1 BLOP "PlayerX wants to join your plane (acept - decline). And now, in cronological order:
- I continued cruising, some minutes of silence...
- player X: Hey! This plane has no guns!
- Me: You're wrong, we have 3 20mm guns...
- One minut of silence ...
- Player X: But... ...I cant manage any gun!
- Me: You're right, this is a 109, a fighter.
- Player X: Then why you acepted me?
- Me: Why you asked me?
- Some minuts of silence...
- Player X: I cant unjoin this plane!! Take me to the airfield!
- Me: Negative, We are about to engange several bandits... ...silence.
- COMBAT, silence and RTB to rearm.
- Player X: GET ME OUT OF HERE!
- Aligning with the runaway to land.
- Me: I'm about to rearm this plane.
- Player X: Rearm? How?
- Me: Just wait and look... ...Silence.
- Rearming and taking off again.
- Player X: Hey, where are we going?
- Me: Intercepting A4 bandits again.
- Me: It seems I have an hostage ROFLOL...
- Player X: Still cant unjoin! Take me to the base!
- Me: About to engange, you can bail or enjoy the flight... ...silence and combat.
- Again RTB and about to land.
- Me: You still there?
- PlayerX: Yep.
- Aligning the runaway with some heavy banking.
- PlayerX: Your flying sucks!
- Landed, rearmed and taking off.
- PlayerX: Good to see you are not going to anywhere, your fuel is at minimun.
- Me: You are looking at the wrong gauge (altitude), I'm reading 75% of external tank.
- Player X: Need to get out this plane as soon as possible!
- Silence, cruise, combat and RTB again.
- Me: The ticket for this travel is 20 bucks mate...
- Player X bails out.

ROFLOL!!!

how come when I squeaked about goofy newbies a week ago I was branded as a  Insane bigot who eats childern and urinates on old people? it appears to be quite stylish now.

BTW my favorite newbie question is:

NewbieX: how do I type messages?

Even though I don't like your average Tin Horn, I still help when I can. Since the 'Net and this game are rather anonymous you can play macho all you want. I'd like to see a little feature added; any new guy has his e-mail address, real name, age, and marital status thrown up on the roster for all to see. That way you'll see stuff like this:

NewU411: i kil u!
Lephturn: That's nice Michael Waller, 37 year-old father of Two girls
NewU411: what? how u know that?
Lephturn: Seems your wife is getting mad about you not mowing the lawn
NewU411: aaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

hehehehhe

But yeah, I try to help when I can. Generally if they're nice but blunt I'll try my best. Any time I get the "Train me u bastard!" type I use a little known command ".eject dickhead". It works great! Long Q&A sessions I don't mind, especially if the Tin Horn shows some basic manners. I had a guy last week that asked where he calibrated his joystick. I told him, then he got angry, at ME, for not telling him how to EXIT the calibration. I could tell he was a Two Week Wonder; this guy barely got the C-hog off the ground. While I was rampaging around in a Yak shooting up the useless masses he fired at me. All I saw were tracers fly by, so I pulled a quick loop and blasted him.

Yep, he got real pissy. Started moaning on and on about how come I didn't abide by my own rule (call before engaging). "Simple, u shot at me. makes u fair game!" he got his panties in a pinch and left.

By contrast I've had guys that are simply a joy to teach. They need a little practice on something, or just want a short critique of their fighting skill. I'm more than happy to tell them, give them pointers, suggest different things, even go a few rounds just to see what he's talking about. These guys are a blast to fly with, and teach. If only all Tin Horns were that much fun. Ahh, wishful thinking....

I help out whenever I can.  I've been lucky and have had some good people to teach.  There are alot of good ones out there.
Rock:  Ya see that Ensign, lighting the cigarette?
Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

Sory me no speak english very well thanks.

Wat this BB need keyboard? THIS BB SUCKS!!!!

I remember being a newbie well since its only 6 months away... The only difference is that I started at WB and the online trainers did a great job helping me over the worst trouble. Then, second thing that confused me was the ACA (which at that time had squads, field takeovers, scores etc features enabled.)

Being a newbie I liked the inflight DAR a lot better because I could find the fight on the map easier.. The FM however seemed.. um.. weird. It took me 2 days untill I managed to believe it was forced easymode lol... I had played offline ace only before that. I racked a 4 kill streak on my first mission back then.

When I came to Aces High I already knew quite a lot about online sims. Still coming here was a strange experience.. 1.03 FM and no guidance on MA leaded me being zoomed over and over (don't think I scored more than 1 kill on that whole 3-4 days I could play out of my free 2 weeks, due to a crappy joystick which spiked enough to give the 'dont move your stick so friggin fast' messages.) After buying a new joystick I returned to AH but had lost my trial chance of course.. I was hoping that AH would count somehow the days actually played hehehhe.. fat chance =)

With the introduction of 1.04 the transition from WB FM seemed much easier and I'm a devoted AH fan since then.. However I haven't activated an account yet. My cc is maxed out (newbord child and all) so I have to stick to h2h. Not that I have a lot of time to play atm either =)

rofl Mandoble!

You could have really gave the guy a fit by telling him that you hoped you didn't take a round in the radio and lose contact with him... then squleched em

 -Westy

(I help answer questions as best I can these days. Unless the party asking questions becomes belligerent. Then I just squelch em with no further coments)

Well, to be honest, I am a 3 days old newbie and I did (really really did) read the manual but alot of the functions in the game are NOT described in manual. Let alone all the slang which is used in the game, is hard to decrypt sometimes.

Taking off in an airplane isn't that hard, but several functions in the GUI are sometimes not very self-explainatory and a helpfile with only keyboard mappings isn't very helpfull then.

It took me a day of internet reading all links and pages somehow connected to AH to figure out what to do, what not, how, when and where...

Might be an idea to make a newbie guide, explain the basics with links to places if the newbie wants to dig deeper into certain issues.

Say what you want but $30/month AND incomplete manuals/tutorials AND a high learning curve will not make for a highly populated game...

Yet still it got me hooked somehow   I wonder why...
