If anything, maybe for the two week trials the perk planes can be flown without perk point cost for the perspective subscriber.

Only if they have a limit on how many they can fly a day.  I can see manawar making a new account and trolling people in 262s.
If we have something to show we will & do post shots, if we have nothing new to show we don't.

Yes, this would be the problem. I envisioned something rather modest, the price of one 262 run. That is what everyone is going to be curious about anyway
"Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture, torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals."

Manawar... what a fabulous mem that brings back. He used to ack with big guns amd then do the   here. I'm happy to say that he never killed me but I killed him once. Mostly I'd avoid him.

<inappropriate extrapolation follows>

Clearly, BnZs wants to enable low-skill players like ManaWar to dominate the game by allowing them the regular use of f-15s and radar guided missiles via an unearned perk system.

I only see someone who is trying to make it so new players can test out the higher-quality or more unique planes, even if they don't have the 'skillz' to fly them.

I didn't call it an inappropritate extrapolation for nothing.

OTOH, I don't like the idea of free perkies. I also don't think our clientele, or at least the clientele that will stay, needs a lot of whiz-bang. THey buy realism. If they want whiz bang, they can go to War Thunder <cue Scot accent> which ARE KER-RAP, BY THE WAY.

We need all the clientele we can get compromising the game to an unacceptable degree.

This is actually a well-turned phrase that perfectly illustrates the dilemma at hand; how to broaden the appeal without racing to a lowest common denomination.

It's worth considering. At the same time, I think the whole perk system might be too fine a point to actually make much of a dent, awareness or appeal-wise. I wonder how many mmog players actually are aware of AH.

Eh,honestly mostly what we need are Sierra Hotel graphics on max settings. That'll draw them more than anything else.

if you want to appeal to the total noons, award 500 or something perks upon converting the account from trial to paying.

then advertise it to the trial players as if it is a big deal.

just increase the reward perks from 20 to lets say something like 250 per class when you win the map.

it will also boost the old players to play for map win instead of spending all their time in ttank town.

Which makes me wonder: how big is the bank of "trialers" ..? Those people, imj, are self-selected as aware and interested. If there's a sufficient number of them, your idea makes great sense.

The other upside: fresh meat to be ground. I'm not so far along that killing noobs has any less appeal for me than a good 1:1. Indeed, I've actually seen very good players (one from this w/e comes to mind, in fact - a top 100 guy) fly along in a nice straight line, unaware that a lone g14 was approaching on their low 6.

As long as it can't be gamed by signing up repeatedly.

Hah! Tank town isn't flying but it is combat, which is a more rationale thing to spend one's play time doing than 99% of the stupid "mishunz" and landgrabbing ops with no opposition.

There is no amount of perks that would get me to play for the map. If chess-piece patriots and armchair generals want me to say "Yes sir!" and hop to, then ya gotta pay me. Cold hard cash. I'm sure some sort of Paypal could be set up. Say $10 an hour as starting wages. Then I *might* actually be willing to divebomb, pork, toolshed, run supplies/troops and other mind-numbing activities. For a couple hours each week anyway, just to cover beer costs.

As an old player I say BS.

I have thousands of perks that I don't use now. Why would easy perks lead me toward a win the war style game play?

I'm with the Fuge... Win the War is "speshul edukashun", and I say that with a caveat: I don't mean to offend those in special education. I mean, it's fun to learn it and try it once or twice but, BnZs couched it pretty well: it's kind of mind-numbing in that it's not so much a skill-building or learning exprience as it is game-y. Ultimately, who cares that much about the map so long as there's good combat to be had?
